These are the guidelines for QLD Jaime...
"Children must attained the age of 4 years by the last day of December to attend a state preschool the following January. Preschools offer non-compulsory classes for 21/2 hours, five days a week or full-day classes for five days a fortnight. To be enrolled in the first year of compulsory schooling (year1) in January, children must be 5 years old by the end of December in the previous year. Primary school in Queensland lasts for seven years, from Year 1 through Year 7.
After completing 7 years of primary education, students are eligible for secondary school (Year 8-12). Years 8 through 10 are compulsory although completion of Years 11 and 12 is encouraged. "
Everything you need to know is in this website: http://www.ozschoolguide.com. I went to Guardian Angels in Southport which is a lovely school - well it was 30 years ago when I was there!! I visited about 2 years ago and it's still lovely although my grade 1 and 2 classrooms were gone... :(
Good luck
