I want to use my spa bath for my impending home birth....

My FIL & MIL visited recently from the UK, and my FIL has a colostomy...my DH thought he might enjoy using our big spa bath, but he ended up getting an infection! FIL was not impressed!

So I obviously need to disinfect my spa bath before I dare use it to loll about in in labour....

What do you suggest? ie, quanitities of bleach/domestos/or/pine-o-clean etc? I wouldnt want to use too much and end up with bleach burns

Thanks :)

A good pool place may be able to help you out. Many of them sell spa products.

Hi,
I dont think you could go wrong with bleach , personaly I put it on straight leave for 1/2 hour then wash it off very thoughly with warm/hot water.
Bleach will kill nasties better than other products that claim to.I am not to sure I could belive that your FIL's infection at the sinus site would be caused by your spa possibly more likely unchanged stoma bags.
If you feel comfortble using bleach ,thats the way to go make sure you have plenty of ventiation though
Good luck and best wishes

I'd def go and talk to a pool/spa specialist and ask their advice.
Spa's a great for breeding nasties, they're usually a great temp that bacteria just love!

Thanks guys

I might go check at a pool shop or something - I am tempted to just fill it, tip in a tonne of bleach and then put the jets on for a while to get the bleach circulated, but I am just so nervous about residue from the bleach....I wouldnt know how many times it would need rinsing.....

when I have my homebirth, I dont intend to put the jets on, dont know if that will make a difference?....but will wait and see how I feel I suppose.
