My birth story of Frankie....

It was July 2007 when i found out i was pregnant with our first baby. :yelclap: We were one day driving down the motorway saying to each other that it was time to start trying for a baby, then the next week found out that i was in fact pregnant. My pregnancy was smooth sailing all the way through, i trully loved being pregnant except for the 24kg weight gain  My EDD was 18th April 2008 and we were expecting a girl:p

18.04.2008 - A friday. I was at work, yes i was still working (found being at home too boring!!) and we had a family business so i could just come and go as i pleased. I said to my DH, Kent, that i felt something was gonna happen soon, just felt strange. That night we went out for dinner and i felt great. Kent presented me with a gorgeous pink saphire and diamond gold ring, which is to pass on to our daughter when she is older. After dinner we went home to watch a dvd, it was 9pm when i felt my first contractions. Although, i didn't know these were "true" contractions, as i was told by my midwife that i wouldn't be going into labour for at least another week, and if i felt contractions it would probably be "false" labour. So i went to bed and slept a restless, but good sleep.

19.04.2008 - I wake and still feel slight contractions. They were not painful. Kent and i go to a shopping centre about 40 mins away to get some last minute things. On way in the contractions getting stronger and faster, i started to time them. Had to leave shopping centre after about half hour, contractions getting stronger. We get home at 4pm, have to be at brother in laws house for his b'day dinner at 6pm. I have bath to hopefully help the pain. We go out for dinner. I tell Kent that if we have to leave because of the pain then maybe i should call our midwife - ( I still do not believe i am in true labour!!!), We leave at 7pm and call midwife at 7.30pm whom says that i am probably not in true labour (WHAT IS THIS TRUE LABOUR) because i ate dinner an hour before and can still talk on phone... But tells me to call her if anything changes. At 9pm we call to say we are making our way to the maternity hospital, my contractions are strong and lasting a minute and are 60 secs apart. At this point the midwife thinks i am at very early stages.

When our midwife arrives she examines me and to all our amazement i am already 5cm dialated...half way there!!!! Everything is really painful now, the contractions are fast and very very strong. I have gas to subside the pain, which makes me very drowsy but helps i think (who's to know what it would be like without it!). The next few hours are a blur, filled with many different positions, a shower, a go in the birthing pool. At about 1am i tell the midwife i need to get to the hospital (we are at the maternity hospital 30 mins away from the local hospital, and the maternity hospital does not do epidurals), i wanted an epidural!!! They have to prepare you first.... they gave me 25ml of pethadine, broke my waters and then they would examine me again before calling the ambulance. When they got to the examining part they realised that i was indeed fully dialated, no time to get to the hospital yet alone have an epidural.

It was about 2am when they told me i could start pushing. What bliss to be able to work in with the contractions. At 2.15am i asked them "how much longer!!???". I was told she would be out by 2.30am with a few good pushes. At at 2.24am Frankie Che' Thomas arrived into our world. Kent told me her head came out with the cord around and her hand next to her face, followed by her body a few seconds later. She was placed on my chest and 15 minutes later she was feeding from me.... what relief!!!:cloud9: And how amazing life is!!! Kent was a great support, i was very very lucky!

Frankie is now nearly 4 months old, and my gosh...she has a loud set of lungs!!! :hissy: But she is beautiful, gorgeous, talks lots, smiles all the time, loves loves loves bath time, and makes us so happy!!!

Baby # 2, a few years off :p
