View Full Version : tooth extraction - dry socket
anyone ever had something called dry socket after having a tooth extracted?
I had one out on Saturday and OMFG!!! I am in PAIN!!! :crying:
I called the dentist and the receptionist said it's probably something called 'dry socket', I've never heard of it. I googled it so I know what it is.. but I was wondering if anyone has had it themselves and any tips or experiences
I haven't been able to get to the dentist yet, no-one to babysit, but the receptionist said there isn't much they can do anyway.. mostly just clean it again and give pain killers
ouch, ouch, ouch - it hurts soooo bad! My jaw is so swollen, I look so stupid! and I can't open my mouth more than one fingers width.. is THAT normal??
No I haven't..but have had teeth out recently and lived in fear of dry socket!
I'd be trying to get into the dentist ASAP...and take some super strength pain killers in the meantime - I've always found Nurofen Plus to be good for dental pain.
Hope you can get some relief soon!
OMG you've really scared me now!
Sorry I can't help you with "dry socket" but I am soon to have 2 wisdom teeth out and now I'm petrified  :crying:
I really hope you feel better soon :hugs:

Sheer agony - I couldn't even stand still
Dr or dentist asap - immediately - now - take the kids - just go
Panadein Forte and Nurofen Plus didn't relieve my pain.
The dentist had to pack the cavity and give me an pain killing injection

I had dry socket when I had my bottom wisdom teeth removed. You will know if it is it because you will have a feral taste in your mouth which is actually your decaying bone.....
I think if you get into the Dentist quick they can pack it and protect it. Which if I had know enough about it when I got it I would have done but by the time I did get in it was too late :crying: My back molar only has one set of roots in the jaw bone the other two float in the gum. So it can start to wiggle and fall out really easily :( especially as I am a tooth grinder (although I wear a plate to bed now because of it)
oops - sorry to scare you gals! .. it doesn't happen to everyone , so I read by googling - just the unlucky ones like me! :(
can I take nurofen plus when breastfeeding? .. I'm taking panadine now, and watching out that the codeine doesn't constipate bub. Trust me, it's so bad that if I wasn't feeding I'd take anything I could and knock myself out for days!
Noo - did you have problems opening your mouth - kinda like your jaw was locked - after having a tooth out?
good luck Miriam - I've had wisdom teeth out and didn't get it then so hopefully you won't either
decaying bone?!?! .. jeez! that's sounds full on!! .. I have the yucky taste in my mouth :(
I'm calling DH now and saying 'come home'.. I'm going to the dentist and sitting there 'til they see me!
