Anyone been into the new Mater Mothers Public hospy yet?

Whats it like?

I haven't had my first appointment there so keen to hear any feedback.

Do all rooms have ensuites?
How spacious are they?

Doesnt really matter in the end but just excited and curious

I've been but only in birth suite - the last client I had that birthed there went home the day after so I haven't had a sticky at the postnatal ward yet....but I'll get a look in a few weeks. But I know that in public it's two to a room with shared ensuite.

The birth suites are ok - obviously everything is clean and new which is nice because the old Mater was a bit of a hovel. They now have heated resuss tables at the end of the bed so that if it's a ped attended birth the baby stays in view of the mother at all times so that's good....they used to have a little room thing off to the side where they took baby and mum couldn't see :(

Old birthsuites had the bathroom as a seperate room....which was good. New ones just have a shower and toilet in one corner divided off by a curtain. Which is horrible...feels very exposed :(

Also have nice big birth tubs....but you can't get in them after your waters break and you can't birth in them

On the whole it looks nice (and it's nice and warm :D) and much cosier than the old one....but yeah they've cut corners on a few important things.

oh 2 to a room with shared ensuite is fine, when my friend gave birth in the old one back in may she had to go down corridor to communal bathrooms gross!!

yeah like you say least everything will be nice and new

I gave birth at the MM Public with DD and you're right, the old maternity ward was horrid! And the communal bathroom was ridculous...no privacy at all.

But i have to say, the birth suite was fine - I had no probs with it... and the midwives were wonderful, esp the one I had during the birth. If I could remember her name, i would totally recommend her! And I guess at the end of the day, that's the more important thing (to me anyway) than the room you are in.

Good luck Mega!

ah I get to meet my assigned Middy in the next week or so cause I got into that midwives programme they run so thats cool, get my own middy for nothing.

At the end of the day I guess none of it will really matter as long as me n bubs come out happy and healthy

I just wanna see the digs!!

Went today for my 36week check with midwife, have to say I felt really comfortable and its really nice. I had my first bub in the old public section and yeah the birth suite was lovely but the bathrooms/toilet really didnt make me feel real good once I had baby - I really just wanted to cry wasnt homee.

But today just seeing level 5 and 7 it is really nice, wasnt able to see the birthing section or the rooms tho. They do tours on tuesdays at 2pm I was told. Hope that helps.:flowerz:

yeah I am really happy about it, getting to go to them for all my check ups and stuff will be great. My doctor is nice but hopeless, I have to tell her what I should be doing. Nice to have people looking after me who do it all the time. Its more like what I would have back home too so thats cool, feels more familiar

I really need to get organised and book my first appointment with the mater!!

your GP has to refer you to the hospital in general, then give it about a week after they send the referral in if they haven't already and call and ask for the midwives group. I believe the midwives make all your hospy appointments cause they booked me into the OB as well

yayayay very excited cause I have my first middy appointment in less than a week. She is coming to my house!! How is that for service???

It will be good cause my dr is nice but hopeless, will be great to have someone who knows what they are doing..knows what I need to get done. Just can't wait.

Feels like things are pluggin along now. Just really happy I got into the middy program and get my own midwife. So excited
