My partner is a catholic whilst I am not. We were married in a civil ceremony so, as far as the church is concerned we are not married. Our local priest will not consider baptizing our little girl until we 'get married'. I know that there are priests out there who are prepared to baptize children based on the fact that they will be brought up Catholic but haven't found one. Can you help me find one in Sydney??? Thx

Ah there are quite a few the only issue you will have is that to baptise or marry anyone outside of their local parish permission is needed from the parish priest which can cause a massive hiccup if he is a little 'old fashioned'

I remember a friend of ours had similar problems getting their child into their local catholic school and they just got a blessing (or reaffirmation) of their marriage done by the priest and it was all cool. It wasnt as formal as a traditional church wedding (because of course you can only be married once) and nor does it require both parties to be Catholic  Just one is required and you (assuming your the catholic) make a promise to do your best to bring up any children from the relationship in the Catholic Church. Really you could probably do it in the same ceremony as the baptism depending on your priest.
