Hi everyone,
I'm just wondering what sorts of tummy reactions are common when starting formula? (And how long they should last?) DS has been drinking a (whole!) 20mls of NAN1 at night as a comp feed (normally bf) and has become a bit 'blocked up'! I don't know whether to persist, or try a new formula - or is this normal?
(Also while we were away, I gave him S26 as it comes in little sachets, and he was VERY pongy! Discovering a whole new world!! :D Ha ha!)
Thanks,
Hi Bella28, every baby is different, when Aden first went on formula his poos the only thing that changed was colour and smell. However when Travis went onto formula, I panicked, he went from have lots of dirty nappies to only one every few days. I have learnt since then that this is normal and that he isn't constipated. Have a look at this thread it should help.

You may find some formula causes constipation whereas other cause the opposite reaction !
I had the second problem with S-26 so havent touched the stuff since !
Remember not to keep switching on bubs as this could cause more harm than good.
It takes them approx 2wks to get used to a formula so for that time period unless its really bad you have to somewhat stick with what your doing.
So you may have found the switch has caused some of the probs & now she is trying to get used to it.
Sometimes adding a little more water into the formula mix can help with the constipation try not to go to different to the instructions as this can be bad also !
Man i making this sound horrible arent i LOL !
My bubs used Heinz from a newborn all the way through until recently with no dramas so dont be worried about going for a "cheaper" formula as they have the same things in them.
We only changed recently because when he went onto the toddler formula his bm was revolting sorry tmi but he wont drink cows milk so we are also watching to make sure that he hasnt got an allergy as we have had dramas previously. Anyways we switched to Karicare Toddler Gold with no problems except if he has too much dairy.
Sorry im going off topic somewhat :o
So maybe try to offer your lo some extra water this may help relieve the constipation otherwise try some prune or pear juice but give it a good 2wks before changing to a new formula again.
Good luck :)
Hi
We introduce Nan Gold 1 at the sameage as you have.
We found intially DS bowel motions had changed in frequncy but after a week or so they went back to evey nappy or every second nappy. He poo were always really on the nose, and a dark green colour but have since found out from other thread on bub hub, that this is due to the fish oil used in the formula.
Nan is supposed to be the best formula as it close to BM adn easy for bub to digest as Bm is.
We are currenlty tryin ghim out on Karicare AR as he has a samll case of reflux and are finding now that my supply is dwindling qucikly and we are increasing the amount of FF he has become very :barf: on the nan.
Hope this has helped.

i would try another formula:) my DS tried 4 different ones within 2 weeks  he had trouble keeping most down and got blocked up. hienz is pretty good :)
Hi
Pleased to announce that Karicare HA AR is going well. Hardly :barf: 's now, and his bowel motions are back to normal. They don't stink like they did when he was havign the NAN. he has also dropped a feed since being on the Karicare I think as it is thicker than the NAN.
