View Full Version : Herbal Teas & panadol
Hello all,
Just wondering if you can ease my mind? I enjoy peppermint tea and jasmine pearl, also ginger and lemon tea. They are all just normal teas, no hidden herbs etc.
Is it ok to have these whilst you are pregnant, trying to conceive? On average, I probably have say 2-3 herbal teas a day. I also drink chai tea and have 1 - 2 a day but that is it.
I hope I can not give up my chai tea :-(( its my favourite daily treat!
Also, Is it ok to take panadol?
thanks heaps in advance
all of the above are safe, i think too much of anything is never good(except chocolate).:)

I think that there are some teas - like the ones that contain dieuretics or dandelion or something like that, which are not recommended, Also, if its tea with caffeine, there is a limit to the amount of caffeine that is recommended,, Panadol is fine though according to my doc
I drink either 1 cup of coffee or to cups of tea per day with a dash of lemon as I find it really refreshing! I ginger tea good when I was suffering from morning sickness

Generally, if you can eat the herb as food it is safe, I am not sure about the Jasmine pearl but I was told large amounts of some herbal teas — including peppermint and red raspberry leaf — may cause contractions and increase the risk of miscarriage or preterm labor.
Chai seems safe to me, mind you it has caffeine, I was told by my doc to keep caffeine drinks to less than 3 a day, so 1 or two cup of tea should be alright. ginger and lemon seeems OK to me, but don't know for sure.

Panadol is OK, but Herron is not, I think what the doc said was because it was antinflamtry (spelling??). so a simple paracetamol is ok.

Herron is just another brand of paracetemol? Nurofen is an anti inflammatory.

If you are only having a couple of cups a day, the tea is fine. Raspberry leaf will not bring on a miscarriage and nor will peppermint. Peppermint is great for nausea, as is ginger and lemon. St. John's Wort tea should be avoided though. (It's gross anyway, lol!)
thanks so much for your responses girls. appreciate it.
yeah i normally only have 1 -2 chai teas a day plus i think it has minimum caffeine not like coffee.
cheers

Chai only has a little black tea in it, so it is fine.
A standard cuppa tea has 8mg of caffine compared to coffee that has around 30mg.
I am loving the ginger and lemon teas at the moment. Staves off the MS. Find a brand that has real herbs and not just flavoured. Twinings does it for me. I am also drinking Rasberry Leaf and Stinging Nettle teas around twice a week and this will increase to two a day closer to my time.
I have read that Jasmin is not good for pregnant women. I did a bit of research by googling the tea / herb and pregnancy. There is mixed info out there so just go with moderation.
