Thats what i was told today at a health food shop
I was shopping up at the local Westfiend today with jkat, & I went in to find out the cost of Fenugreek (sp?) tablets as i'm feeling very empty lately. First she said, "no they are no good, get ???? thistle" instead" I asked how mant to take, she replied "with the babies 3 main bf a day." I said that MJ doesnt have set meal times (never has), and that she has a snack/feed whenever she wants it. "Well" she says "your child is ready to be weaned" jkat & I just looked at each other & walked out. I'm disgusted that she said that to me when i was in there to get something to boost supply.
I'm in shock still.
That's so rude!
If you lived in Brissy I would have thought I knew where you went. I went to a health food shop looking for something natural to take as they baby blues were getting worse and the woman wouldn't even look at me. I was in her shop for over 10 minutes, no one else was around, and she didn't even attempt to help me.

Wow, what a good salesperson (NOT) ....
What would she know. MJ and you are the ones to decide about weaning.
Milk-thistle?? Or I think there's another word before Milk. Something-milk-thistle? Or Milk-something-thistle?? LOL Somebody will know.

That was sooo rude of that lady. I take Fenugreek when my supply is low, it does help!
I've heard of milk thislte but I thought that was more of a liver detox thingy... not sure for milk supply...

LOL you're probably right Sarie, I knew I'd heard the word milk-thistle somewhere....
hehehe I remeber reading about it being good to take either after you've been drinking or before you drink to prevent a hangover... that what makes me think more along the liver line;)
What got me was the tone of her voice. If RB had said anything about that she knows her baby better, the lady would have told her that RB was being silly, and that she was correct  . Some people have no idea, oh well she just lost 2 potential customers :D

Hmm yes Rainbowbrite, but considering she's in a health food store, it would be organic formula - and that would be SOOOOO much better, right?
I'll bet she hasn't got any children either!

Can someone please tell me more about this herb. I had my bub weighed yesterday (3rd baby) and at 4 mths he has only gained 25gms since last month. Apparently it is suppossed to be 400gms! I have never been too concerned by what the health nurses have to say but Hamsih has been restless throughout the night for over a week now. I was thinking maybe he is wanting something a bit more solid but now that I know he is not gaining much I am thinking my supply may be a bit low. I had no supply problems with my other two so it is a bit of a shock. Apart from taking it a bit easier (I tend to run around a lot) and increasing my water intake, I was wondering about fenugreek. I have taken him back into our bed all night so he can top up in the night and help to increase my supply but I thought something extra may help too?:)
RB - Sorry that someone else has the hind to tell you what you should/shouldn't be doing with your bub. Only you and MJ can decide when you are ready to wean - any mother would tell you the same - she obviously isn't one!
Sal - I've just started taking Fenugreek and for the first time in months by boobs leaked! it definately works:thumbsup:

Depends on what brand the shop sells, I bought some in a green bottle (sorry cant remember the brand) 1000mg x 3 aday. Maybe your health food shop will be a little more helpful than Rainbowbrites?
I think the other herb you're after is called Blessed Thistle. I'd try the Fenugreek first then Blessed Thistle if that's not doing it for you.

thanks evryone for your help. I bought some Fenugreek capsules this morning and have started taking them. You are right Goosie22, they are in a green bottle and made by Nature's Own.:)
I would love to ask that shop assistant why on earth she thought that she was being asked for advice on feeding or weaning?? The cheek of her.
