Hi all,
I am just after some advice, I live in canberra, so the weather is either HOT or COLD rarely in between, anyway, I just want to have a nice garden, my neighbour does :crying:
So my question is, we have a small lawn, and the grass is always, very dry or dead and never grows, especially in winter, and its very weedy, not nice grass. I was thinking is it possible to dig it up and get some good soil and plant grass seeds (can you even buy these) or would it just be a waste of time, how can you keep grass in the cold..everyone else does it!

I actually have no idea bout this...but maybe you would be better off getting some turf. I remember my brother in law using seeds and they ended up with horrible weeds all over the place and turfed the whole yard about 6mths later.

As far as I know from what we have investigated there are diferent types of grass that suit different climates so any turf place in Canberra should know what would grow well.

Turf is more successful and you get a better type of grass but $$$, but the grass seed you can buy is Couch which isn't very hardy.

Lawns are actually quite high maintenance to keep nice, watering fertilising mowing and airating, how much time does your neighbour spend on it you may be surprised. To keep it in good condition it needs to be mowed every 2 weeks in summer!

Also is the spot you want it for in the shade? grass needs alot of sun if its in the shade to long particularily in winter it will just go soggy.

Hope this helps
