Hi Everyone

I am considering booking into the birthing centre at Royal North Shore - Sydney but after all the bad publicity I am a bit worried.

Has anyone got any personal experience or do you know anyone who has had any problems at the RNS ?

My GP is a big advocate of the hospital and says she believes they have never let anybody down but I would feel better to hear from some Mums who have experience
Thanks

Mel

Hi Mel,

I was actually going to post a new thread but found your post had exactly the same question that I was going to ask! I'm afraid I'm not much help of course (being in the same position as you) other than hearing good things about RNS (despite the bad publicity).

I am currently 10weeks and exploring the myriad of options. Living in Narrabeen RNS is the only hospital on the north side (unless you count Ryde) with a birthing centre. I've yet to be able to contact RNS to find out if I'm even able to book in there since I'd heard you had to live within a certain distance of RNS?

I would also be very interested if anyone has any feedback on having birthed at the birthing centre at RNS.

Wishing you all the best with your pregnancy Mel!

Lou :)

You need to live within the area to be able to go to RNS. I live in Belrose and was told that I had to go to Manly or Mona Vale as I was not within the area for RNS. High risk pregnancies can go there and I think if you do shared care with your GP you might be able to go there. The bookings centre is pretty helpful if you give them a call.

RNS doesn't have a birth centre ....

There is definitely a Birth Center at RNS Public. I'm there all of the time. It is lovely.

I'm pretty sure they just have a Group Midwifery in place of a birth centre. It is similar to a birth centre (in the sense of promoting natural birth etc), but it's in the hospital...
If you are high risk you can't do it.

I am booked in, but am only 18 weeks, so have only had one appointment so far. They seem great though. Totally onboard with what I want to have (a waterbirth).
