View Full Version : Vitex
Just thought for those interested we could do a poll, once you have taken Vitex for 2+ cycles, or got your BFP you can answer the poll so we get some idea how effective it has been for others... Anyone like that idea?
So... or  ladies!?!

Sounds like a good idea to me.
I would love to hear results of others taking vitex, then I could decide if I thought it would be beneficial for me to take.
is there anyone who uses blackmore vitex? If so how many tabs do you take?
I take the blackmores, 1 tab 3 times daily before meals:thumbsup:

My hubby hasn't quite been at home at the right time yet since I have been on Vitex - but my cycles have improved incredibly.
I have been in hospital twice in the last year for laproscopic surgery and since each operation my periods have been extraordinarily painful. That painful that I thought it was another ectopic pregnancy! That pain is no more now... Yay :smiliedance:
Good poll! I'll be interested to see the results. :)
For me, I fell pregnant on the first cycle taking Vitex. I took the Greenridge brand (liquid) - just 2ml mixed in some juice each morning. Had to give almost the whole bottle away when I fell pregnant so quickly. :D

WOW that a great result! Where did you purchase your vitex from?
Have just started taking blackmores this cycle :fingerscrossed: here!
Baby dancer, I got it from a health food store here in Sydney. If you do a google on it, you can get it online too I think.
3 of us fell pregnant the first month taking it - Pippa, Shereejoy and me.. so hopefully they'll come along and vote in the poll.
I fell pregnant during the first month of taking it :smiliedance:

Thanks cosmic, i will have a look online :D
So far my temps are looking great and its only my first vitex cycle!
Only prob is the blackmores tablets work out $10 per fortnight whereas I've been told the liquid, while it tastes revolting works out cheaper... Anyone with experience using the liquid got any comments?
TIA!:D

I ordered my greenridge liquid vitex yesterday, i think the bad taste will be worth it!
My bottle cost $18 that included postage (ordered on internet) and that was for a 50ml bottle. Only need 2ml once a day so that seems a much cheaper option than the tablets

do you have to wait till you get Af or can you just start taking it. I am very irregular so anything that help regulate it would be great
hey ya, i started taking (greenridge liquid) 15 days ago, i hadnt had AF since january (started taking vitexmid cycle) and got AF 3 days ago! so its definatly improved my cycle!
hmmm, it it just me or does that only work out to be 4c per day cheaper.....
blackmores - $10 = 13 days = 76c per day
greenridge - $18 = 25 days = 72c per day
 is it just me that stuffed up my calculations there :o
I did just find the 100ml bottle for $17.95 + $5.95 p&h, that works out to be 48c per day unless you buy more than one bottle at once which would lower the postage... 4 bottles would work out to 40c per day.
 I hate maths:laughing:
If you know when you'll get AF start taking it day 1, I don't know if it makes a difference, just helps you keep track of how well its working. If you don't it's not a problem because vitex will sort it out!

Your calculations seem right to me.
At least the liquid would get you 25 days instead of 13.
I didn't want to buy to many bottles as I was hoping that it would work in the first month!! Optimistic aren't I lol

LOL  good work. At least you can start taking yours today, I have to wait for mine to arrive!!
i dont know if prices are different, but my greenridge liquid only cost 13.95 from the health shop..... which would make it cheaper again lol
Is that the 50ml or 100ml
(I assume it's the 50 but if its the 100  I'm off to my local health food shop  )

sorry another question! I know that when you are pregnant you stop taking vitex so when you ovulate do you stop then or do you wait until you get a BFP on a HPT??
I have heard you should stop as soon as you 'o' incase you get pregnant, but I have also heard it's fine to take during the first trimester, and even that stopping taking it suddenly can throw your hormones out and cause a m/c!
Of course the 'm/c' thing wasn't from a very reliable source and my dr and 2 natropaths I have spoken to have said it's a very safe herbal supplement to take and dosen't matter when you start/stop, just shouldn't take it in the third trimester, bub cops enough hormones at that time.

Well in that case I am not going to stop taking it until the doc advises me otherwise!!!

I think I'll try the liquid next time... Should I not get a BFP this month that is
I'd also heard to keep taking the tabs to 7 DPO.... so confuzzled

I actually only ordered mine yesterday so I am a little excited too :smiliedance:
I have only being taking Vitex for 9 days!!
so far I have noticed:
* Increase in an already high libido...my DP is getting worried:laughing:
* more even feeling, less moody at the beginning of this AF
* I didn't have to second guess AF's arrival this cycle
* more CM or just that I have noticed ??
I am very confidant about this next cycle and can't wait to see what happens. Unfortunately, I thought I was buying the liquid extract but infact bought the caps:Vitext chaste berry extract 1000mg 2x day but heard someone say they take 3xday so I might increase.
:: hope it helps::
I take mine 3 times a day Harmony. I am on the tablets.

I ordered liquid vitex but it wont be here for another week so I got some tablets last night so that I could start taking vitex as close to the start of my cycle as possible (today CD3) my bottle says to take 3 tabs daily with meals so you might need to increase your dose harmony
thankyou so much baby dancer and sarie ... I will start today taking 3xday
do you both feel confidant about - - conceiving on vitex??:smiliedance:

Yeah for sure, I am really excited about taking it and think it will be a huge success. After viewing the poll and I see how many woman fell pg after only one month of taking vitex I am certain it will work for me.

I do
The caps are 1000mg, the tablets are 660mg so 2 caps are more than 3 tabs, 3 caps wouldn't be a good idea! :hugs:

Sorry Harmony I didn't even realise that your caps were stronger. 3 caps is not a good idea, don't listen to my advice sorry :banghead:

why so love my tommy bub??? I know that it's taking 3000mg but is spacked out over the day{not all at once}. I already have taken the 2nd cap:thumbsup:
I read through the research for May TTC thread, women that were taking alot... but if you have more info than the rest of us; please tell:yes:
this is an extremely gentle herb, zero chance of doing anything wrong

I don't see a problem with it either, its just usually better to go with the reccomended dose for best results  Up to you though you should be fine!
love my tommy bub, I'd usually be the first to agree whole-heartedly:D
so how about I comprimise??
I am due to O between 18/5 and 23/5 - - so from now until the 17th I'll take 3x1000mg per day
then from the 18th until 5th/6 I'll continue with 2x1000mg per day
"~*~*~*how does that sound*~*~*~"
 sounds good to me, hope you get a bfp this cycle! :fingerscrossed:
aww that is just the sweetest:D love my tommy bub thankyou so much
:fingerscrossed: for me "*~*~*~":fingerscrossed: for you
Quick question Ladies..
Ive got my Vitex liquid and i was told to take it from O time will AF arrives or until i get a BFP, but everyone here seems to think it should be taken from CD1 till 0?
So im a little confused as to when i shoul dbe takeing it.. I know where is no harm in takeing it before O or after O - so should i just start takeing it from cd1 until the bottle runs out? (which will be CD25)??
Where do you get Vitex from?
the liquid i have only found online and in healthfood shops.. but the tabs/caps you should be able to get from any chemist..
Thanx Nixie i will have a look:)

Who told you to take it from o? Whats their knowledge base? If you trust them and want to go with that I can't see the harm in it but the women getting success here have taken it from day 1 (as far as I know). I'd go with taking it from day 1 but its up to you. :fingerscrossed: for you too this cycle!

Hi Im new to all of this, I m/c last month and my naturopath told me to take vitex do you stop it if you think you are pregnant? Can it be harmful, I stopped taking it as I was scared if I fell pg it could be harmful but obviously you girls have had some great responses to it.
you are suppose to stop taking it if you suspect you could be preg, but i talked to my natropath about this and she said that its a natural product and wont harm bubs if you are, the reason they say not to is because it 'can' keep your periods regular, even while preg.... i hope that makes sence :)
sorry to hear about your m/c :hugs:

Thanks Braydsmum, Iam currently in the tww so I guess I will leave it and start back if we are unsuccessful. Looks like its definately worth taking, I didnt realise it what it really did I guess I wasnt really concentrating at the time I hadnt made the connection with ttc. :o

it was from the fertilitynaturopath forum, the place you buy ovunow OKP's ect from. The naturopath that runs that forum sed that if ur cycles are regular and you O regularly than u dont need to take it from cd1 - but she sed that it works to keep the progesterone level high after O to help bubs stick ect..
I think i will take it from cd1 anyway - it wont hurt..

Has anyone else been really emotional since taking vitex???
I have been really emotional lately, for instance I could burst into tears today for no reason at all other than I feel really sad :crying:
I think I have only been this emotional since about CD9, maybe it has something to do with O??
Anyone have any ideas or similar experiences?:gloomy:
yes actually I was more moody at o, but it is short lived and small price to pay

Thank God!!! Janelle I am SO happy that it is not just me
I have been so happy since taking vitex then last Thursday I started getting really teary, now I am just crying for no bloody reason!
I guess we will just add it to the list of things that we are going though and doing at the same time LOL:laughing:
Good stuff, glad I started this thread, at least everyone venturing into vitex now knows its a 'normal' possible side effect that will pass! :yelclap: Nothing worse than not knowing!
