I have given my 2.5yo dd parachoc a few times to get her to "go", but the box says not to give it less than two hours before laying down. Problem is, each time I give it to her, she wants to go straight to bed.

Has anyone else experienced this? If you have, what do you do? Does it cause a problem? I'm assuming it means that they might not have much control and poo in bed. Other than that does it do any damage? My 2.5yo is still in nappies as she refuses to use the toilet (driving me mad!) so a messy bed isn't the problem for us.

Thanks for your answers.

The reason you are not to give parachoc before they sleep is because if they are laying down they could bring some back up and inhale it which would be extreamly serious:thumbsdown:
I never had the problem that it made my son sleepy but you should definatly give it to her at a different time. I use to give it to DS as soon as he would wake up in the morning.

Wow, even the pharmacist didn't tell me that when I mentioned to her the problem. Thank you.

I gave it to her at about 8 o'clock this morning. Then 10 minutes later she went back to sleep. She never goes back to bed that early in the day. Her nap is usually after lunch. So that's why I'm thinking it makes her tired. I was not expecting her to go back to bed, thought I was safe to give it to her then.

Can I ask what Parachoc is? Im assuming some sort of diretic?

If your little girl is having problems going to the toilet as in a physical problem I would suggest seeing a natropath (my answer for everything nowdays LOL:laughing: ) but truly they do work!

My natropath showed me this great massage technique to help stimulate my sons bowels and it works like a charm he now goes three times a day (which apparently is normal, I never knew that-I always thought they should go once a day)

If you would like the massage tech. pm me and I will explain how to do it:D

If however your dd problem isnt physical but emotional/mental perhaps you need to search for other ways to help her.

Good luck either way:fingerscrossed:

I gave this to my son only when he really needs it though, I thought you don't give it to them before bed because they will have diahorrhea close to going to sleep.??? Not sure though.

My son has needed parachoc off and on for the past year. I dont find it makes him sleepy or anything. He generally has it about an hour before his midday nap - when hes not having/had any food as food absorbs it and it doesn't work as effectively.

Can children take metamucil? I was thinking you could give it to her with juice at breakfast time. Perhaps her body is having a reaction to one of the ingredients making her sleepy in the parachoc??

You could also try sultanas, prunes or prune juice or add all bran to her breakfast cereal. Try get more fibre into her regular diet and hopefully this problem will go away. That is what i would do.

Also make sure she is having enough fluids. You can tend to get consstipated when you are dehydrated.

Thank you for all of the replies. I do know that it is diet-related. A few weeks ago I started checking the amount of fibre in foods (I've never had to bother looking at labels before) and I started a high-fibre diet. My 10mo found it a bit too much fibre, and my DH noticed the difference in his diet, too. She didn't have any trouble for a few weeks so I backed off a little. But she's started having trouble again, so I guess we'll just have to handle the mess from our 10mo.

I also tried to limit the amount of drinks one day as she stores up wee and then floods the nappy and clothes, but the next day we had trouble.

I read the label for metamucil and it says not to give to under 12y unless on doctor's advice. I did pick up a supplement from AMCAL and it says 1.5tsp daily in water for under 12y. I had been stirring about .5tsp in her juice, but had stopped when the high fibre diet had been working. Now she can tell when I add it to her juice and refuses to drink juice, but still drinks milk. She also won't drink plain water.

Prunes used to give her dioahrea (i never know how to spell that) but I give them to her if I think she needs a boost.

She likes the Hibran weetbix, but has been asking for rice bubbles lately. I've been sprinkling the oatbran on it, but she found it and wouldn't eat it.

She's normally a very good eater and I'm starting to worry that she's not eating enough of what I make specially for her.

Thanks again.

I know what you are going through as I have been through the same thing with my DS. His big problem that he will only eat banana and does not like fruit juice. After making sure he was eating a high fibre diet and drinking lots of water (fibre needs water to obsorb into your body) I took him to the Dr who recomend I use parachoc for 2 to 3 mths until his body got use to doing regular poos. After 2 mths we started giving it to him every second day and then 2 weeks later took him off it altogether. It has been 4 mths now and we have not had 1 incedent of him screaming in pain and stainging for an hour:smiliedance:
Good luck I hope things get sorted soon. Here is a web site I found with lots of high fibre recipes
