Hi all

My son Samuel is 14 months old and only just got his fourth tooth.
Is this normal?
All other mums i know with same age bubs have heaps.....

Feel like he is constantly teething and has been since about 5 months but first tooth didnt show till 11 mths.

Hi Tracey,

My boy is 17 months old and he only has 5 teeth. He got his first around 14 months as well. My first boy who is now 3, didn't get his first tooth until about 13 months. We asked a dentist friend who told us it was fine, some children just teethe(sp?)later than others. Still, it can be worrying, but other than lack of teeth, everything else is on track, so I try not to think about it too much. :)

Hi Tracey,

Your Samuel was born the same day as my Eloise!

I remember reading somewhere that teething patterns are hereditary, so if you and your hubby teethed late then chances are your kids will too. Both my DP and I teethed really early, and Eloise got her first 4 teeth within days of being 6 months. She now has about 12, with two more just poking through in the last couple of days.

So don't stress - every child is different!

Boomtish is right, it is a family thing. My children were all late teethers, it runs very strong in dh's family. They will come through, don't worry it is just genetics.

My son was 17mths old before he cut his first tooth. His first 2 appeared the same day, a top front one and a top side one, if that makes sense. All of his teeth have come thru in a different order to what we expected, but he is 26mths old now and has 8 top teeth and 6 bottom ones, he has his bottom middle ones and then a gap on each side and then another two side teeth...we are also waiting for the 2yr old molars to come thru :)
I got my first tooth when I was 9mths old and my partner was about 6mths old so I have no idea why our sons took so long to come thru :D

Thanks guys for yoru replies, i guess its like you say all kids are different !
My hubby teethed late apparently so Samuel must take after him.

Boomtish - How exciting that we had our bubs the same day!! Eloise is just adorable :p What fun this age is *slight sarcasm* hehe, no really my boy is lots of fun, he is currently trying to work out how to jump (like in the Hi-5 vids) and he cant do it and finding it very frustrating... quite amusing to watch the poor kid !! :D

Take care all and thanks again
