Hi ladies,

Might sound like a silly question, but do you have to have the Ob/Gyn present if you choose to go Private?

I had DS in a public hospital, just me, DH and a wonderful midwife, who left us alone when I wanted and didn't ask me twice when I refused the drugs. I had a super birth experience and the Ob/Gyn popped in after it was all over :p.

Since then we've got private health insurance and upgraded to include Obstetrics (as in our policy you have to have had it for 12 months - so it's too late after you're already pg).
We have moved towns and the private hospital here is apparently wonderful - but someone told me that the Ob/Gyn is present for the birth, even if they're not required?

Still got time to make up our minds - no :bfp: yet :p.
Thanks in advance for any comments!

They don't *have* to, but that is what you're paying them for...so unless they are held up somewhere else, they'll be called in.

Thanks. Our local private hospital's maternity ward/birthing suite has a great reputation, and this is more what I'm after, rather than a specific Ob/Gyn; I've got a while to think about it anyway! :p
