Hey Ladies

I just have a few questions for anyone who can help me.

I really want to get into childcare so I am thinking about doing a traineeship but just want to find out if it will be financially possible so I have these questions.

1) Would a staff discount be available to me if my child was able to attend and how much might it be? And would this be available with the CCB/CCR or will I only be able to have one or the other?

2) Is there a suppliment I might be able to get (from centrelink perhaps) for studying?

3) does anyone know what the traineeship wage is (I am 25yo)?

I know curcumstances vary but any help with these questions would be great.

Thanks very much.

Hi Lil Mumma,
I can't answer all your questions but I'll tell you what i do know.
I started working in child care in 2004 and I was 20 and my wage then was $11.98. Wages have gone up since then and I know a qualified assistant gets 17$ odd an hour. Your wage would depend if you got put on as a trainee or just an unqualified assistant. if you were put on as an unqualified assistant my guess would be 15-16 an hour.
Depending on the center you worked at would depend what the discount you would recieve would be - I've worked at 3 centers - one I don't know what it was the other was only 10% and the one I'm currently at there is no discount (not for profit center and fee's are only $60 a day)

As for centerlink the goverment has brought in all these new incentives for older people taking up new professions - best bet would be to call them. I think there's also things for mums also.

Not sure if i've been much help sorry..

Hi Lil mumma- This is the link to the Award for trainee childcare workers, it lists the weekly wages for full time trainees, which varies depending on your previous education and how long ago you finished school-
http://www.industrialrelations.nsw.gov.au/awards/controller.jsp?awardCode=1159&view=document
As for extra assistance, I am almost certain you would be eligible for some sort of incentive for studying, though I don't know how much, contact centrelink for info.
I guess it would depend on the centre as to whether they offer a staff discount, I am pretty sure that there is no provision in the award saying that they have to.

Hi hun

Would a staff discount be available to me if my child was able to attend and how much might it be? And would this be available with the CCB/CCR or will I only be able to have one or the other

This really depends on the centre - some centres dont allow workers and their children to attend the same centre

Is there a suppliment I might be able to get (from centrelink perhaps) for studying?

Best to talk to centrelink about this there are many different situations to what people are able to recieve. For instance Parenting FTB A&B dont get anything extra however JET childcare are paying childcare fees for days im studing and practical.

2) Is there a suppliment I might be able to get (from centrelink perhaps) for studying?

No idea - but i dont think so

3) does anyone know what the traineeship wage is (I am 25yo)?

Not 100% sure but i could be anything from $15/h

NOTE: just wanted to add this. Some training companies are giving Certificate III and diplomas away thanks to the governments Productivity Places Program
might be worth considering
