Hi Everyone

I am currently looking at different hospitals for the birth of my first baby and the two I am tossing up between are Mater Mothers Public and the Redlands Public... My partner will be staying overnight with me throughout my hospital stay as I suffer from anxiety when left alone without familiar people in a hospital environment (comes from when I was young) so ideally I would like a private room.

I am wondering whether anyone had any suggestions as to which hospital they think is best and if you could tell me a little about your personal experiances with these hospitals in order for me to get a better idea.

Thank you so much for your help, it's really appreciated!!

Hi Leesha,
My sister had her little girl at Mater Mothers and they were lovely. I don't know anything about redlands though. My boys were born at Logan and RBWH.
I think stays can differ greatly, I had a fantastic experience at Logan, but when my girlfriend had her bub there 6 months later she had a pretty awful time.
I hope some others can give you more helpful advice with your chosen hospitals!
Best Wishes
Sarie:hugs:

we highly recommend the mater, we had both out boys there and they were great, any thing you wanted you just asked for, my husband was able to stay the night with both our boys' delivery and they are very helpful. They left you if you wanted to be left and assisted when ever you needed it. My sister had a baby at another private hospital on the north side, and upon my visiting her you simply felt the difference, I have no idea about redlands hopital but the nurses were really abrupt with my sister and i wouldn't go any where but the mater. when we have out next one we will be going back to the mater no doubt!!!

I live in the Redlands, so there was no question that I would have my baby at Redlands Hospital. I had my own room which was lovely and quiet and bathroom which was shared by one other lady next door. (I didd'nt even know there was someone next to me) I don't think it's a common occurance for partners to stay over though. Maybe enquire at Redlands and explain your situation and see what the go is there before making a decision.
The other thing you may find to be a bit of a pain is the distance you live to the hospital - gets a bit much when you start your weekly pre natal visits!
Redland does offer a follow up visit after you're home with bub from a midwife BUT only to Locals:thumbsdown: Having said that I didd'nt have a home visit, just a couple of phone calls from them.
Hope this helps with your decision, All the best with bubs:)
