When do you sign your child up with sporting groups and clubs and what-not.

I'm very interested in Cobey playing a sport... and I know that at 2 he's far too young  but what's the general thing to do? When do they start?

Also with things like scouts... what club-groups are around like that? As a kid I did St John which was a first-aid thing in which we learnt first aid skills every week and then competed in competitions...
What else is about? :)
Is there a RAAF something? Cobey would fall over himself for anything linked to planes. :p

Thanks

(From She who is bored on a sunday afternoon.. I should be vacuuming)

Hi, I can't help much with scouts etc. We have 3 very girly girls here.

I guess it would depend on what sort of sport. DD1 did basketball for a while and they had to be 5yrs to start. I think things like NRL are the same. Little athletics start at 5yrs too.

But maybe check into your local youth clubs? I think different youth clubs do different things.

My girls joined gymnastics at 3yrs and love it.

Hi,

Don't know if your little one is into tennis but a came across the followwing website www.toddlertennis.com which says they hold classes specifically designed for 3yr olds - 6yr olds.

Joey Scouts start from 6yrs old, we are waiting for our little one to get old enough to join too.

I also found the following on the PCYC website:
TINY TOTS Crawlers Walkers (14mth-2 ½yrs) climbers (2 ½yrs-5yrs)

"Tiny Tots is a co-educational program aimed at supporting and improving motor abilities, self confidence by utilising safe, stimulating and challenging equipment in a structured environment. Tiny Tots is a place where children are given the opportunity to explore and develop their physical potential. Children are encouraged to attempt activities by observing other children in action with their parents/care givers. Classes encourage social interaction - making friends, learning to turn take - and help develop listening skills."

I haven't been to one of these sessions so can't actually say how good it is. My DS attends a Kindyroo group each week to do climbing, music & development activities, we haven't looked into structured sporting activities yet, I think we will leave this until he is 3yrs old.

Good luck on your quest,

Ooh I love Little A's... i've never done it (I'm so terribly slow haha) but I love watching the little ones struggle to run in their own lane haha.

lros - I went to the PCYC thing once, it was a fun playgroup type thing, but yeah.

Toddler tennis looks cute :p I was looking up kid sports in brisbane and found a link with a free thing and is run with the local city council, that looked cool, I might take Cobes down soon! :)

Hi
I believe that most clubs begin once they start school - around 5 ish.

We had to wait for mine to turn five to start soccer and basketball.

Mini soccer starts at 4 now.

My kids go to The Boys Brigade - they take them at prep age - they just love it.

Gymnastics start from young - the PCYC have many activites for little ones.

The city council run toddler sports and mostly they are free and have them in local parks. That is well suited to toddlers.

Fun Sports run sessions for llittle ones and they are Brisbane based - they cover a great variety of different sports for them to sample.

There are quite a few things to do - just not clubs for them to join - at that age they really just have them attend things.

Have fun.

Tracy:)
