Hi
I need to make a pink cake for my little girls birthday and I don't want to use food colouring. I thought of maybe beetroot. But don't know what it would taste like.
Or maybe raspberries or strawberries.:chef:
If anyone has any ideas that would be great. A tried and tested recipe would be appreciated too.
Thanks heaps.:hugs:
If you get real beetroots not the canned stuff and cook them up and use the pink colouring it will work fine!
How old is your child again cause I would be weary about giving rasberry and strawberry to littlies as they can have a reaction against these fruits!;)

I have a magazine recipe for a strawberry mousse meringue torte (I haven't tried it). It is basically a layer cake, usiing alternating layers of thin meringue (baked like a pavlova) and a strawberry mouse. The mousse needs to be frozen to set and then is softened in the fridge for 30 minutes before serving. The mousse part is strawberries, gelatin and whipping cream. You could just do the mousse on it's own. Let me know if you want details.

Jasmine is 1 today.:smiliedance: :bday:
MarthaM, Jasmine is lactose intolerant so she can't have the cream. The torte sounds yummy though.

Happy birthday Jasmine!! Too bad about the cream. My only other thought was use a red fruit juice (cranberry?) to partially replace any liquid in a normal cake mix. But I've never tried that.
Happy Birthday to Jasmine!!!!!:bday: I've been think about natural colouring but I have no idea....
I cheated!!

I know its hard when you're trying to be good.
Maybe the juice might work.:fingerscrossed:
Sorry I havne't called you yet!
Do you remember my girlfriend from Bris who was at PJ's party?
She found out today that she's preggie!!:smiliedance:
The beetroot water idea is the best one. Its not full of flavour so wont wreck the taste of the cake and is natural.
My sis was allergic to red food colouring and my mum used this in her cakes.
Good luck :)

You could always boil the skin of a few rhubarbs and use that - I think the beetroot idea is the best one though

Yeah, the beetroot sounds like a goer to me too Michelle...we don't want to be like Sarah, and put a whole bottle of colouring in the cake! You know i'm just joking huh Sarie? Your cake was yummy!
:bday: for you little princess for yesterday! :smiliedance:
That was Pillar box red and it wasn't the whole bottle... just about half ;) :p
