View Full Version : MCN help please
Would love some help please, as there are so many brands it's too confusing!
I have a newborn DS about 4.5kgs, but think for money value I'll go with a OSFM.
Have you used these on a baby this small, (he was premmy, so he's a small 4.5kg IYKWIM), & did they work?
Because of his little chicken legs, I need the leg holes to be adjustable.
He's also a fairly heavy wetter, so I want ones that are really absorbant & will last 4-5hours between changes.
I also prefer the nice pattern material ones to the plain colours.
Am I asking for a miracle  or can you please help me?
What brand/s should I be looking at?
Thanks :)
My DS was 4.5 kg at birth, cloth nappies fit him from birth but gave him an enormous bum! I found that terry flats and small AIOs worked best for the first few weeks, then we moved onto OSFM.
He's been in Baby beehinds and Greenkids since he was about 5 weeks, both OSFM. The greenkids absorbency depends on what you use to stuff them. My son is Captain wee, but a hemp insert and a hemp booster can last him several hours during the day. Although I have a personal rule of changing nappies every three hours. For more abosorbency, go for bamboo inserts or bamboo nappies, but be prepared for a longer drying time.
If you're looking for long lasting between changes, and you're looking at PUL nappies, you'd be better off with plain colours rather than pretty patterns, as printed PUL isn't as efficient as plain PUL. It's far from boring though. DS is in a bright orange nappy right now.

Hi DS2 was prem also I started MCNs when he was about 12 weeks also he weighted about the same
i found at first Mandy Macs fitted (they are a OSFA) with a small baby beehinds cover to be great coz the mandy macs fit small bubs and you can get some cool patterned covers and BB are nice and bright
I found BB fitted and green kids pockets a little big but he was growing well so he fitted into the in no time
but he could still wear them they where just a little bulky
Blueberries are good to and you can get great minky ones
in plain but cool colours go the BumGenius and Hautes or they pul Blueberries
they all OFMA pockets
i found if i teamed the BumGenuis (i have the older version 2) with a bamboo booster they work well and
the Haute have 2 mircofibre inserts and the
Blueberries team them up with there Microfibre/Hemp Combo Inserts.
just google the bold to find there sites

My DD2 was tiny 2.8kg and by the time she was 4.5kg fitted into Dandy Bumz which are OSFM. They come in great poly prints, so no wicking and are made by a very nice WAHM. She had chicken legs too but no leaking issues.
They come with an insert which can easily last her 4 hours.
With any kind of nappy you really want to be changing 3 to 4 hourly because they might have wee'd 8 or more times during that period. Sitting in that wee in cloth or sposie isn't that good for their little bottom.
I have some Blueberries but don't like the leg elastic on them. I have had to replace it cause it went really quickly. I had the same problem with the Bum Genius OSFM pockets and fixed them and sold them when DS was small.
Baby Kangas are not a good fit on my DD2 or DS so i wouldn't recommend them.
Baby beehinds are a good OSFM too but bulky on a newborn and a 2 step process as you need a cover.
All up my fav OSFM that has fitted DD2 and DS all the time from when i purchased them are the Dandy Bumz. I just love the prints too.
Thanks for your help ladies. :)
Just wanted to add: The only reason I want them to last that long, is that he's 12 weeks, but still very little being a prem, & now we've finally got his feeding & other probs sorted out, he'll sometimes sleep for 3 or 4 hours during the day & I want them to last that long so as to not wake him up.
Will go and check out all your suggestions.
