Could somebody pleeeeease give me some ideas for decorations??? I don't know why I am so hung up on this but I am quite seriosuly losing sleep over it!! I didn't want to pay for decorators and wanted to keep it quite low cost with some rose petals and candles or something but I have scoured ebay, can't find any candles I like, scoured through bridal mags and can't get any cost effective ideas and as a last resort e-mailed a decorator but still don't know what I want and don't want to pay for it!!!!

I also don't want to pay $6 for chair covers and sashes (about $600 worth) but then I should obviously do something decent for tables decorations so it doesn't look too budget.

ANY IDEAS???? What works and what doesn't???

Thanks heaps in advance!:D

tea light candles would be heaps cheaper then standard candles........maybe in paper lanterns......I have seen this done adn it looked gorgeous.....I think they were small white paper bags from memory with a pattern punched out of them.

bowl of water with floating candles.

Greenery rather than flowers.

Are you giving your guests something small to take away? Could you incorporate that into the centrepiece rather than having it at each place??

I just googles DIY centrepieces adn it cam eup with heaps I clicked on one and there were stacks of ideas. Good Luck.

I agree. floating candles are beautiful and really effective in creating a lovely ambience. At one wedding I went to the candle holders were the guests gifts.

For her table decorations my sister just got some small round candle holders from ikea for tealight candles and the guests were able to take them home. Then just had a centrepiece with helium filled balloons. It was simple but looked lovely.

at spotlight and other party places apparently you can get kits to make those little mini balloon centrepeice things. Maybe that would be nice?

I personally dont really like candles, but do agree it would be a cheap way to make it look great :)

I had balloons. 3 metallic balloons filled with helium and tied to a weight in the 3 different wedding colours. $12 per table delivered.

If you do use floating candles, please have a test run - I have heard a story of exploding glass bowls that were not heat proof :eek::eek:

For chair covers - look on ebay. There are hire places on there in Sydney who do them for $3.95 per chair. You have to set them up yourself (or delegate the responsibility to someone else) but they're still cheaper.

We're not having chair covers. Our colours are white, green and a touch of silver and the chairs at the reception venue are green so they fit in with the theme.

I'm having issues with our centrepieces too. We were originally going to have goldfish in small fish bowls so bought the fish bowls ages ago but have since decided against the goldfish. So now I have to come up with something using these fishbowls - and the wedding is less than 6 weeks away

Good luck!

For the fish bowls and green theme (if you feel like being creative) I'd buy some foam balls, silver wire, and order a box or 2 of fresh moss from the flower markets. The day before the wedding cover the balls with the moss and wrap with the wire. Don't put them in the bowls/vases until the last minute because you want to give them a spray with water when you finish making them, and again right before they go in the vases so they stay nice and fresh. I'd make sure the balls are big enough for 3 to fill the vase. They're simple and look really effective. You could even buy some little flowers, butterflies, stars, or whatever fits the theme to put on the finished moss balls.

That is a fantastic idea! But we don't have a flower market anywhere near us unfortunately. But what a great idea! Thankyou anyway.

I love the idea of floating tea light candles. You could put them in glass bowls, sprinkled with a few petals or even leaves.

If you dont have bowls check out op shops. They dont all have to match. :)

I bought a bunch of float bowls for $2 each in a shop in chinatown.

Also look at hiring your chair covers and tablecloths. Catering suppliers should do you a good package deal, Just don't mention the word "wedding' call it a 'function' or they charge you more!

I scattered foiled chocolates and gold sugared almonds on my tables. Better than silly confetti or sequins!

I saw a really nice idea at a function where they had little battery powered fairy lights on each table. They then had lengths of chiffon over the lights to make them look good. Safer than candles too!

For our wedding, we had 3 large lillies in the centre of the table (so simple but elegant)..and then the bombonerie were little pots (terracotta ones that we painted gold and stick a few sequins on) with 5 foil wrapped hearts and littl ecandy name tags, so they served as place cards, bonbonerie and decoration

We are having Pink and white heart shaped balloons in 2 sizes that you can get from Spotlight..

In cheap shops (have you checked out them), I have found these great little heart shaped tealight candle holders, they are around$4 each, but look so good.

Instead of using actual candles, how about those candle pebbles stuff that you burn a wick in, and it eventually melts the pebble things, but lasts longer than normal candles, cant rememeber what they are called... I'm thinking of doing this in hot pink...

But we are also going to have hot pink fluffy handcuffs on our table decorations, with some Stargazer lillies, can buy some fantastic fake flowers that look real....

I agree check out spotlight, and also cheap shops....

Thank you SO much for all the awesome suggestions!! I did this thread about a week ago and nobody had really replied so I'd given up!

I found clear glass candle tealight holders, I'm going to look in the cheap shops for cheap sand / gravel to put in them and co-ordinating candles. I also found gorgeous little butterflies on ebay (we have butterfly invitations) I am going to put one single pink butterfly on the tallest candle holder at each setting. I am also going to scatter some rose petals. Hope that looks ok.

I am going to check out that site with the chair covers now!!:)

Thanks so much for that. No, I don't think we really need seat covers but if we could find them at a decent price I would consider them. Just looked at that ebay site- $3 is for one cover and sash, can only assume she has more, lol, will e-mail her!:)

we got married in may

we had 3 tables (round) with 10 people at each table.

Our centre pieces were really simple. Some glitter hearts, candles which we found at a discount store and something else which for the life of me i can't remember now.

All up cost like $30

dh and i got married on the beach and then had our reception at a surf life saving club.so we 'rented' golfish and bought cheap glass bowles at red dot.it was $10 a table.surrounded the bowl with tea lights.for our bridal table we walked the beach and found a beautiful lond peice of drift wood.DH is a handy man so he drilled little holes to hold tea lights.it really was unique and gorgeous to look at as u could imagine!hope it helps!
also party plus do fantastic balloon centerpeices that are truely fantastic.you might be surprised.also we saved on chair covers by hiring (we had to bring in everything to our venue)two different couloured chairs.we had red and white which broke the look up are bit.and they did look really good too.

floating candles are quite pretty, and if you want flowers, you can 'bulk' them up with greenery, makes them go further and costs a bit less!!!

but floating candles in a bowl of water with petals on top is simple and cost effective...

good luck!!!

I had coloured vases in the theme of my wedding (blue and green ocean colours) they were $1.95ea from IKEA then at each place setting I had teacandle holders in the same colours (about $3 for pack of 4) from IKEA with the guests names on them which they got to take home

I also had $10 sheer organza curtains from freedom in the same colours draped over each table

We got married on the beach & for our centre pieces we have glass hurricane vases filled with a bit of sand & some shells & a pain white pillar candle in the middle.

Then around them we had some more shells scattered & some "Just Married" silver scatters.

For our chair covers we had plain white but i bought some raffia & tied that around & attached some larger shells to the knot - was more beachy & looked great!

Good Luck:hugs:
