Hi all. I'm new to this private insurance thing. Had DS1 through the public system, but want to go private this time around (I'm about 6 weeks!). Can anyone give me a list of the kinds of things I should check are included in my health cover for pregnancy. I'm with HCF - Top Plus with General Extras Plus.

I would just call and check obstetrics are covered. Let them know your pregnant and just ask if there is anything in particular that isn't covered, it might be easier then asking a lot of questions.
I hope that helps. If I can think of anything more particular to ask I will let you know.

Ask what is the excess for your hospital stay.
Ask if they provide any cover for your partner/spouse to stay in with you in hospital (depends if your hospital offers this).
Ask if they cover antenatal classes (I know its your 2nd bubs but you may still want to go).
Ask if they cover lactaction consultants through their extras in case you need one.
Find out what their gap cover arrangements are - in relation to obstetrics and anaesthetics.
Also does their extras include pregnancy massage etc.
Do they cover any of the cost of ultrasound scans?
Remember most antenatal and post natal appts are covered by medicare (not entirely but you can claim some back depending on whether you've reached the threshold or not), as are some scans.
:iagree: with Zenifa, but probably not worth the effort of asking about the scan's cause unless you are an inpatient, healthfunds won't cover it.
I would also check that you are covered for cardiac, and find out exactly what exclusions you have if any. I'm sure bubs will be perfect, but the point of the cover is to give you extra choices in a 'what if' situation- not to give you extra bills.
