how to tell the difference between SR and plain flour. the labels have rubbed off. i did have the SR in its packet in the container, but DP emptied it out.....and now i dont know which is which!

a taste test????
The SR should have a more 'mineral'/soda taste to it - I think.

Yep Self raising will tingle a little on your tongue
I throw it out and buy more, or only use it in dishes that it doesn't matter.
I've ruined too many good dishes and ingredients for the sake of the price of a bit of cheap flour!

put a bit of each in seperate cups of water water.. SR bubbles.. n plain doesnt..
if you have vinegar .. SR flour will bubble .. plain wont (its the bicarb )

thanks guys. think i figured it out....have just made som sultana and cornflake bikkies (a recipe from here) so will see if they turn out :laughing:
