DH was origionally against private health insurance (thisnks its a waste) but growing up with it I feel its necissary!

Hes now given in the extras only cover because Ive had some serious back problems and have been going to have Chiro and physio every week.

After looking thru alot of policies Ive found one with AHM that seems really good. Its a Family Extras package so it includes everythings from dental, optical, physio, chiro, natural therapies, speech, podiatry, health improvement, hearing aides, alternative therapies etc. It would cost $78 a month. '

Just wondering if this is reasonable and if ppl recommend AHM?

Hi, we're with AHM and I have found them to be great. We don't have extras because I found that you don't get very much back and we're better off putting the extra money aside and paying the full amount when we have to (which isn't very often). I've never had a problem with AHM

Do you need hearing aids? It's just that $78 a month sounds like it's TOP cover, which is often overkill.... Have a look at what the limits are and set benefits. Do a bit of an estimate of what you think your average claims will be (ie- chiro once a week at $30 rebate per visit). Check the one you are looking at the moment and next step down for value.

Good Luck

The main reason we r looking at that top cover is because it included a higher rebate and per annum limit on chiro and physio which I need nearly every week. It also includes fluid injections which I have in my knees and swimming lessons because my kids both have asthma. Also included a higher rate for dental and I think DH is going to need some major dental soon and I will need my wisdom teeth out in about 1-2years. Once u step down to the next one down we'll lose a few of the things we do need. Id rather have a few extras than not have everything we need otherwise its kind of a waste.

We joined up with AHM back in January and have found them to be fantastic!

We have family hospital + family extras cover....we haven't found that we've had to use much of the extras so what we did was before the 30th June 2008, we visited the local Cancer Council shop and bought $400 worth of sunscreen, bathers, hats for hubby and i as well as our little one...and we got the full $400 back from AHM!

The main reason i joined up with them was because they covered babies swimming lessons (up to $8/class) but a month after i joined, they changed their policy so the classes would only be covered with a doctors note. But thats ok, their premiums for hospital cover + extras seems below the average price of other insurers so they're actually good value for money compared to others.

i'm pregnant now and i'll be starting yoga classes soon and this is also covered by AHM (i'm sure most other funds do also) so we will be taking advantage of the extras more so. Actually hubby is thinking about going to the gym and AHM cover up to $12/casual class provided its an approved gym provider....the casual classes we've enquired about are generally $12-$15 anyway so its almost free!
