Look I admit while I love all sport I have a soft spot for Rubgy Union.

However I do not think SB Williams has done the right thing. :banghead:

What rugby needs to do is spend this money on 135kg+ props !!!!

Thoughts boys?

Well if you sign a contract you honour it. SB is still young so he would still have had several years to make the big cash overseas before his rugby days are over.

I don't really follow the squashed ball codes (more of a REAL football fan, myself), but I think I agree with just about everyone else in the country. What he did was wrong - you don't just walk out on a commitment like that

He's stated now that he'll "stick it out for the season" at Bulldogs. A part of me wants to see him gone, but I really think that will just open it up for everyone else to leave their contracts.

But fully agree, he is wrong.

I think it is a huge loss for Australia but I do feel it was more than just his decision to go and I think people need to understand what he must be going through to make this decision. There must be many other issues at play here that we are not fully aware of. I agree he has gone about the whole leaving thing wrongly but in hindsight I know I have made many a wrong decision that I know if I could change I would.
He is young and not experienced enough so I s'pose you live and you learn and in many years from now I know he will look back with regrets.

I'm typing for my lazy husband:

"I agree, there must've been other things going on that the public don't know about. Like maybe the rest of the players hated him or something. People don't make extreme moves like that over just money. Do they???

Yeah what he did was wrong. I think that his agent just said, c'mon over to France, we will sort it out for you in Australia and the poor barst*rd believed it could be that easy."

The biggest problem for the NRL is that they foster great athletes that other codes can use AND pay better:confused:

It seems ridiculous that the NRL, as the professional break off from Rugby Union in the first place, can now not afford to pay their players as well as prvincial French Rugby???

How is it that all the local clubs in all sports struggle when such huge sums change hands for the TV rights etc?

Oh well, go the Wallabies for Saturday it would be awesome to beat the kiwi's twice in a row :smiliedance: but it is a very tough ask. I will have everything crossed

If i was a bulldogs fan i would be happy, he uses up way too much of there salary cap and is always injured. bulldogs will be better off without him.

I personally think he was duped into signing a 5yr contract with the Dogs...

It isn't a great loss for Australia either, only the NRL. He drew crowds and I loved watching him play.

I think he'd be wasted as a centre in rugby. He'd be the best Number 8 the All Blacks have seen since Zinzan.

I saw the SBW interview on the NRL Footy show last night!

Even though I think SBW is young and easily lead, I think he made some ver valid points about the state of Rugby League.

The thing that annoyed me most about it however was how the plonkers on the panel of the show toed the company (Channel 9) line and mostly avoided the points he raised and just bagged him for breaking a contract that I agree he should not have signed in the first place!

The game is in serious trouble!

Your thoughts guys??

League doesn't need show pony's. He's simply over-rated. Never done anything great above club level.

I feel sorry for the Bulldogs. I'm a bonco supporter and couldnt give a rats about the dogs but what sonny has done deserves no forgiveness.

He has clearly broken there spirit after that cowboys match. They all need to regroup and hold there chins high. They will all get over it.

SBW is free to play rugby as of Thursday. Seems money overrides the so-called principles of the matter. What a surprise.

I don't feel Sonny Bill Williams is totally to blame. I really don't watch sport but from a legal point of view he is not a lawyer and therefore probably had no idea what he was getting into.

His former team shouldn't be writing five year contracts. Who knows where a person will be in five years.

I have been watching this with a bit of interest.. I must admit I'm not really a rugby fan but everyone is passionate about it..

A five year contract is a long time in sport, but he didn't have to sign it or take the money either

However it is dissapointing that he has left his fans here to chase more money in France

So there is my 2 bobs worth

So there is my 2 bobs worthYeah but anyone who isn't law savvy signs things without fully understanding the consequences.

I feel career contracts should be flexible. Yes there should be a penalty for wanting to get out, but not a penalty where you're banned from working in the industry.

Maybe there should be a time limit put on contracts, where a team can only contract a player for two years at a time?

I can see both sides of the discussion..

But there have been cases in AFL where players have long term contracts, I believe that Alistair Lynch had a 10 year contract when Fiztroy merged with Brisbane

It looks like another case of Money talks!

I feel sorry for the Bulldogs but I'm confident they can bounce back next season (they are getting some good blokes from Brisbane!) 2008 season was a lost cause anyway!

I also think that Sonny-Bill raised a couple of valid points re the players and how they are treated and if the NRL just ignores them I think they will regret it big time in the long run!

I think we can close the book on this one!

i put these money-bill williams jokes in blokes jokes too

Q: What's the difference between Sonny Bill Williams and Arnold Schwarzenegger?
A: Arnold Schwarzenegger will be back.

Q: How many SBW's does it take to change a lightbulb?
A: None. SBW prefers to keep people in the dark.

Q: Why wouldn't Sonny Bill ever catch his best mate with his girlfriend?
A: Sonny bill doesn't walk in on his mates. He walks out on them.

Q: What's the difference between SBW and my house?
A: My house still has fans.

Q: What does Cher and the Bulldogs have in common?
A: They both got screwed by Sonny.
