Hi Brooke!!

Not sure if I'm considered a "young parent" anymore (definitely don't feel like one!!)

I second what Katrina said:

Jess, most homebirthers feel the same as you - stressed at the thought of birthing in a hospital. Whereas at home, you're in familiar environment and relaxed in your own surroundings. :D

I am a homebirther at heart.

I wish.

I really do.

If I ever have another baby I am definitely having it at home and I don't care what DP says. This one is going to be born at the hospital though and the very thought of it terrifies me. Not the labour, the hospital.

Anyhow, I don't have a point, I just wanted to say, LUCKY YOU!!

I just reread my post this morning and I sound like a hippy so I thought I better introduce myself better so that I don't scare anyone away.

Hi everyone. My name is Brooke. I am 20 y.o (21 next month). I live in Forest Lake, Brisbane, QLD. I am the mother of Samarra who was born at home 17 months ago and I am planning on getting pregnant in a couple of months (fingers crossed) and have planned another home birth. I am a strong homebirth advocate but I understand how some women feel safer in hosptial and we should all birth where we feel the safest. I live with my partner, Eddie who is 25 y.o.

I have chosen not to vaccinate my daughter or future children but I completely respect those mothers who do vaccinate as it is a mother right to choose.

I use fitted cloth nappies (eenies) on my girl although I admit that it will often drive me up the wall and I will resort to disposables for a few days until I regain my sanity. Cloth nappies are an excellent way to save money.

I am still breastfeeding my 17 month old and I plan on weaning her when she is about 2, in time for the new bub. I am extremely lucky to be breastfeeding because I had flat nipples and experienced 4 months of cracked nipples and intense pain to be able to achieve it. The things we do for pur kids.

I am in my last semester at uni studying for a Bachelor of Behavioural Science and can't wait to finish.

Thank you so much for all your replies. You have made me feel very welcome.

Thanks

Brooke

I just wanted to say welcome Brooke! I'm so NOT a young mum but we probably have other things in common when it comes to parenting philosophies so I'll enjoy seeing you around.

not so young, but definately like minded. did you have a homebirth?. it was something I wanted to do but circumstances (and money!) made it a birth centre instead.
will be great to chat:D

Hi I just read your thread, very interesting.

I am from Brisbane too. We seem to have some things in common the cloth nappies and the extended breastfeeding.

I too use the Eenee Nappy system and love it! I am also bf my 14 month old son!

Hi Brooke.

Im a young mum with a 14month old DS. I breastfed until Angelo was 12months and only stopped because he wouldn't stop biting and my boobs were constantly bleeding. He also started pulling my top down in public whenever he felt like it. I admire that u have breastfed for so long. Its such an achievement. U also have the patience to use cloth nappies. I gave it a go but it just wasn't for me.

My DS gets his shots but I totally respect non vaccers. And I would have loved a home birth but we didn't move into our own house till the day we came home from hospital.
