I am a bit worried because I only started this job in the middle of May, so I am still on probation, and I have been sick a fair bit.

I had two days off in my second week, then my six year old was sick on one day and I had to stay home, then I went home early one day and a couple of weeks later had another day off. I just rang in sick today, and I am getting some attitude. I know it makes life somewhat more difficult for people, but I can't help it!

I am really worried, because a girl at my friend's work was given the sack after her probation because she was sick too much (of course management said they were not happy with her work, but my friend said there was nothing wrong with her work and it was just that she and her kids had been sick too much)

The thing is, they can see I'm sick when I am there, because I have been dragging myself there whenever I possibly could. In fact, I suspect this behaviour has led to me being sick for so long!

Now I think I am going to have to have the rest of this week off, as the Doc is sending me for a blood test and chest x-ray, and I just feel so weak!

I am also worried I may have something more serious than the flu!

My work is okay with my being sick, but I do make sure I get medical certificates whenever I can... I also try to have Chris stay home with Cobes when he can (take turns) so I'm not taking quite as much off.

I hope you're going to be okay, try not to stress about work... you'll be okay and stressing can't be good for you, put your feet up and have a rest.

I think most places these days are aware that its better for you to stay home and get better rather than come in and infect all the other staff! I supervise staff myself and I much prefer that they stay at home and don't give whatever it is they have to me!

I know that it puts people out and workplaces have to go in to Plan B mode to cope but its much, much better to take a day or two than drag yourself there and potentially make your flu or cold ten times worse and have to have double the amount of days off.

I hope you are feeling better soon. Try not to worry about it - just focus on getting better and then going back and doing your job the best you can (a good and happy worker counts for oh so much!).

I remember this attitude when i was on probation too, but seriously it cant be helped. Just presesnt your medical certificates and when it comes closer to your probation expiring if your really concerned perhaps sit down with your boss/team leader etc and explain to them you are aware you have had a fair bit of sick time, but assure them it has nothing to do with you not having a strong work ethic, and you are very committed to your position blah blah, i think it could help

just a thought, is there anything you could take home to do? When Cobey's sick sometimes I'll drive to work (with him on my hip) and pick up some typing or other stuff to do at home (even if i do end up doing it at 9.30pm after Cobey's gone to bed
Or ask work to email you some stuff you could be doing... :)

I can understand this from an empoloyers point of view as I have had ALOT of young girls working for me who were "sick" very often...I think people are naturally suspicious and get annoyed at staff (i never used to be like this) because they think everyone is "chucking a sicky"...

My own doubts were only confirmed when I saw two of my girls who called in sick down at the local shopping centre smoking

HOWEVER that being said..... When people really are sick, I would much rather they take time off and get over it then keep coming to work and spreading it round!!!

There really nothing that your work can do about it!!! I would just keep taking in your doc's certificates and thats that!!!

Goodluck and I hope you feel better soon..

hope you feel better soon! :hugs:

Thanks all. Right this minute I am so sick I don't care if I die, let alone get the sack!

I think I just felt insulted when I got that "tone of voice" on the other end of the phone this morning.
