I am needing to do a strip wash on my bumgenius nappies, but don't want to do a separate load just of them, so as the title says... can any type of nappy be strip washed? (they are rinsing now so I need an answer ASAP!
I will have in the load bubblebubs, bumgenius, berryplush, and itti bittis, plus cloth wipes.
I am assuming I use the 90 degree setting with the detergent etc etc. Just want to make sure nothing gets fried!
Thanks in advance, Cherry

For a strip wash it is best to just isolate the nappies that need stripping.
Chuck 1 cup of bicarb soda in where the detergent goes, and 1/2 cup vinegar in the rinse cycle. Wash on hot.
I'd only be stripping the inserts to be honest. Leave the PUL stuff out as it isnt the absorbent stuff and can be wrecked by too many strips.

I disagree.
BG's are notorious for residue building up in the suede fleece, so a strip wash should be done with dishwashing liquid (eco-friendly ones are best, not ones with softening agents), and not bicarb and vinegar (as this will affect the PUL outer).
I actually strip washed BGs by hand using a nail brush and scrubbing the life out of them, then rinsing and rinsing and rinsing. Needless to say, I won't be using them on my next baby!
You can put dishwashing liquid in your machine as well (it doesn't turn into a mass of bubbles as you would expect), or you can do the bicarb and vinegar wash with fitteds and inserts. It won't harm your other nappies if you do them altogether.
You could also try a really hot wash with a cap full of Dettol... helps take out smells, is a great bacteria killer, and the heat and agitation will help strip them too.
One thing many mums are not aware of, is if they use fabric softeners on other loads of washing, it will remain in the machine and get on their nappies which is a big no-no as this can build up and stop them absorbing.

Thanks for this! I got lazy and haven't done the strip wash yet, just laundered them as usual. I think I will do the bumbenius outer bit as well as the inner, as I have had trouble in the past with them repelling moisture (rather than letting it absorb) so i dont think it would hurt to strip them properly once. Plus I like the dettol idea as DS has had a couple of viruses lately and I want to kill the nasties before he starts sharing the nappies with his baby sister who will be born in a matter of weeks!!!

I don't think you are supposed to wash them on anything hotter than 60 degrees though. For the inserts it probably wouldn't matter but it would possibly damage your PUL and/or elastic to use too hot water.
