Hi Flick81,
I can't say I will give you advice as I had the exact same problems trying to BF my now 15 month old DD and yes it is extremely heartbreaking when it doesn't work out:hugs::hugs:. I have also thought about what I could do next time around to better my chances at successfully BF DD/DS number2.
I did want to say I would turn to nipple sheilds as an absoulutely last resort as they can hugely hinder your milk supply further. After 6 days of trying to attach DD to Flat nipples (sorry TMI) we turned to the shileds, just so I could leave hospital!! DD got used to the sheilds and would scream when I tried without, so I was never able to wean her of them and my milk never really came in.
One more thing I was going to try next time around to help increase my supply. Is to feed continuously the first day in hospital. Just have skin to skin all day and attatch bub (if I can) whenever she/he stirs.
I hope this helps and I wish you the best of luck in succedding with the BF ing the second time around. (Chances are you will be alot more relaxed with bub number two so this should help your supply also)
:fingerscrossed::fingerscrossed:
My advice would be to scrap the pump, just feed your next bub naturally.
I found that using a pump was not actually a sign of how much milk your body produces, as I never got a let down (yet DS would put on great amounts of weight) and couldn't express barely a few MLs.
Feed the next bub as often as he/she wants. Don't ever listen to the every 4 hr cr*p that some people will try to feed you.
I'm sorry I haven't had any experience with nipple shields but I tend to agree with Pinky, they might cause a bit of nipple confusion.
If you get sore / cracked nipples, I always used to find that Lansinoh would help sooth and repair the damage.
Best of luck :)

:iagree:
Expressing isnt really an indication of how much you have either, i can only express 10ml a day but dd is thriving on the boob.
I would also get in touch with the ABA and a lactation consultant, arm yourself with info so your prepared :) Oh another thing and it sounds really stupid but it works, laying out in the sun before having bubs actually helps, even if your nipples are sore when your feeding getting alot of air to them and sunlight really helps too :)
Good luck with things

what angike said.
Also contact the ABA, they are really helpful, they can give you good advice.
My advice is to go into breastfeeding like you are starting out new, forget what happened last time. Start out fresh, try to get your confidence up. This is really important. Your breastfeeding exprience last time will most probably be different this time.
Lanisoh is like magic cream for breast, it really is. Get some before bubs is born so its on hand.
STick with it, the 1st 2 months is the hardest, once you get through the 2 months it gets so much easier and you will really love it.
Get yourself a lactation Consultant. She will be able to help you with positioning and latching.
Good luck, stay confident, cause you can do it!
