View Full Version : Waxing and Shaving????
Hi
I usually get my legs waxed, but I'm going away on Thursday and there is no way I'm going to be able to get them done in time. Does anyone know if I ruin all my good waxing work by shaving once? I've been waxing for years and the hair is nice and soft and quite sparse. If I shave this once and then go back to waxing it should be no big deal right??
Thanks
Madi.

I reckon it will be fine!! How long are you going for though? You might need to shave more than once, but evne if you do it will be fine. Or maybe use the cream stuff (forgotten what it's called) instead, might grow back a little slower? I used this oonce on my bikini line in desperation and it was a bit prickly growing back, but was ok in the long term iykwim!
Thanks Jem. :D Hopefully I still remember how to do it! lol.
you might find that you have to begin again with the hard work of waxing. im a beauty therapist and i used to have clients come in and they had shaved in between and wondered why their legs wre prickly a week after their next wax. you might also end up with a rash and sometimes even little bits of blood where you have shaved:eek: . my advice is to let it go and not shave, i know its hard but its a pain in the bum to begin again with the whole waxing cycle
I'm hijacking your thread here Madi but it is on the topic of waxing - am I being vain if I go and get a bikini wax/brazilian before giving birth in 5 weeks? I know that there is no dignity in birth anyway but I would prefer to be....ummm....tidy (I have been a little slack in this area for a while).
I have heard that you shouldn't get waxed late in pregnancy cause it could bring on labour but I'm willing to risk it.
I agree with Jazzysmum I am a beauty therapist too. If your away for ages why dont you buy a veet waxing kit for your legs- its not that hard and at least you wont have to start the cycle again. Your hair grows at different rates so when you shave you cut off at the tip and if there is hair just below the surface then your cycle is stuffed for waxing next time- it wont last as long because the underneath hair will grow through after the top hair has comeout. If that makes sense at all- probably not! i know what im saying but its hard to write LOL!
Its up to you love, but I suggest buying a wax kit and doing it yourself if your away for a while!
Good Luck!

Go for it but be warned your pain threshold is lower because of your hormones. this might be tmi but i always had my braz done while i was preg but towards the end i let i get a little longer because i thought a bit of coverage might be better when everyone is peering down there. maybe try a g-string wax. this will tidy it all up with out being all exposed...:)
Hi scout, i dont believe there is any reason you cant have a brazilian before child birth for health risks but i think it would be difficult if you have started to drop. Very uncomfortable and the midwifes have probably seen worse LOL!
However, you do what you feel comfortable with love! Maybe just get a bikini wax which is quick and not too painful but neat and tidy too!
In saying this i was induced after 10 days - we had antenatal appt and Dr said come back tonight at 7 so i rushed home and attempted a bikini wax so i felt comfortable had to get hubby to hold mirror( so unattractive LOL) but when in labour the last thing on my mind was being hairy!!! LOL
Good luck with the birth!
Hope its quick, easy and as painless as possible!

Leanne - OMG, I have started to drop. Why is it a problem?
I think that the bikini/g-string was would be far more appropriate than a brazilian! My poor obstetrician.
because you need to put pressure on the skin when you pull the wax off and you dont want to push that hard on a preggy tum.....:)
Oh......ok I'll speak to the girl about it when I make the appointment and see if she's happy to do it.
Thanks for the advice - much appreciated. :D
Thanks Jazzys mum!
Good Luck scout!
I booked in for a wax today and the girl said she has lots of experience with women late in pregnancy, she just needs a little more time to do the wax so that she can make me comfortable.
She also said that she'll do whatever "amount" of waxing that I want - I'm not going to go a full brazilian though, I just don't think that I could stand the pain at the moment .
Great to hear Scout, well good luck, hope its not too painful for you! Youve still got labour to come so waxing will be a walk in the park!
Wishing u a quick labour and just remember that all the pain in labour is followed by many many years of complete happiness :hugs:
Not long til you have you beautiful bub now! At least youll be hair free LOL:laughing:
