View Full Version : Rhesus negative
I have just found out my blood is rhesus negative and I'll have to have some injections before and after the birth, I understand that they are necessary but just wanted to find out did anyone have any side-effects or anything with having them.

Hi there Nicki,
yep I am rhesus negative as well. I have had an injection (some years ago now) which was for a termination and from what I could tell I didn't even feel it.
So after all the blood tests etc, a couple of jabs of Anti-D won't be too bad - better to be safe than sorry. Just a thought though - if your partner is also negative you may not have to have the injections at all. My husband is positive so I have to have them.
Why are you feeling glum? Anything I can do to cheer you up?

I was lucky that way. My husband is exactly the same blood type as me. So I get to avoid the whole issue. My OB just asked for a letter from his doctor proving that he is RH neg as well.
Think hubby is positive so I do have to go through this, I just don't like the injections. So... its another injection at 28 weeks, the glucose test thing around then too, another ultrasound at 34 weeks to check my now low lying placenta, more injections after the birth. I feel like I am and have been doing nothing but having tests and more tests- I am so fed up of them, AND this is an uneventful pregnancy !!!
I know I shouldn't moan :o as there are people who are in far worse situations but today I am just feeling a bit sorry for myself.
I promise I'll try to cheer up, (and be more grateful for being preg) before I post again, sorry girls.

Hi. i had to have the anti-d inj. Nothing to stress about. I did have a slight reaction to them though. More vomiting and horrible heart burn that was all. I found the only place i could get real info about it was a website for the US Mayo Clinic.
www.mayoclinic.com i'm pretty sure that was it. It tells you about it and possible side effects. I printed it out and it's in my preg folder if you can't find the website or the address is wrong, i can dig it out and det the info for you.
:p

I am rhesus negative aswell. I had two shots of anti d and had no side affects what so ever. My husband is A positive so I had to have the injections aswell.
I'm the same! The injection doesn't hurt a bit. Just like a mozzie bite really. I had the first one in my butt and the second in my arm.
Cheer up sweets! And just blame your glumness on pregnancy hormones! It works a treat!! :p ((HUGS))

I am RH neg too. I had an injection with my first, but I asked for further info on my second and I didn't bother getting it with him. It seemed to me the chances of something going wrong were pretty remote. You do have a choice, the hospital should have some literature on this.
