Just wondering where the best places to give old toys would be?

I have a few boxes full of stuffed toys - would it be best to go to a hospital, doctors room or anywhere else?

I also have a lot of bigger toys like fisher price musical type things that im wanting to give away but not sure to who? I know I can give them to Salvation Army but I was wondering if there were other places like waiting rooms or kindergartens/childcare centres that could have some use of them.....

Hospitals wont take old toys as they are not sterile..
And i wouldnt give to a doctors, i mean yeh great they have some toys there but they dont 'need' them.

Could you see if you have any women refuges or the like in your area. Some mums need to flee there house with nothing for there kids and they would really help in a bad time in there life..

Much better than the toys just being sold for a profit or given to places that dont 'need' them..

Other wise maybe some self funded community centres..

Good on you for being so generous..

:iagree: Good on you for being generous!

How about some of the bigger items going to a local playgroup? or a church? If they are in good condition I am sure most places would like them...

actually, your local hospital will take them and the sick kids will LOVE them. the RCH takes donations, and so does our local. Makes my daughters day when the nurses bring in new things for he to play with

Womens Refuge Centres are a great place - most of these women would love baby/children clothes and toys as some of them have left their homes with not much.

Where abouts in Melb are you located? There is Eastern Emergency Relief Network which can come and collect them for you - their number is 9874 8433 (9am - 1pm, Monday to Friday).

Thanks for the ideas. I have so many toys to donate, I think I can spread them across our local hospital, shelters and a few community centres too.

Thanks Bigglet. I have just emailed WDVCS about donating.

I'm in the Northern suburbs but dont really mind who they go to. I'll give them a call on Monday.

When my dd broke her leg and we waited in the ortho waiting area at our local public hosp there were hardly any toys, even though there was a huge kids play area. Any toys they did had were old and broken, any books were all torn. Really, it should have all been in the bin. So next time I'm up that way I'm going to drop off some toys.

Good on you for thinking of others :D
