Ok, apologise in advance for this being such a long post but I just HAVE to vent about the typical MIL problems .....
Just before easter it was my birthday - on the actual day I received a card in the post from my MIL and family with $20 in it. It wasn't an actual birthday card - just one of the blank ones you pick up at the $2 shop. She didn't even write in it, she got my DH's younger sister ( who is only 13 ) to write in it. Oh and by the way, in the same envelope she posted a "happy easter" card to my two boys ( who can't ready as they are only 2 and 4 months ). You are probably thinking "what's the problem, at least you got a card" - problem is this:
We live in the same suburb as them - why are they "posting" me a card
Last year they did the same thing but there was $50 in the card - for some reason this year I'm only worth $20 ( they are VERY well off by the way ).
They always make a HUGE fuss over every other family members birthday - they go to dinner, have a cake blah blah - and they even call up distant cousins to wish them happy birthday.
So as you can imagine I was somewhat upset that yet again my MIL couldn't be bothered calling me to wish me a happy birthday. So my DH thought he would send her a little email ( she is big on the emails ) and told her he is "dissapointed" that his wife had not heard from any of his family on her birthday. Anyway, I was feeling v.happy with him for sticking up for me but it has caused MASSIVE drama's. Easter lunch was cancelled. None of the family are talking to me now - my husband went around to see them with one of my sons on Easter Sunday after a phone call from his dad inviting him (and only him) over.....
I thought I would do the right thing and send them an email thanking them for the "lovely" card and for the Easter Card for the boys. No response.
I've always got the impression that my MIL absolutley hates me, but now I guess I am 100% sure. In the past she has said stuff about me behind my back and I've found out because my DH little sister is like a parrot and repeats everything she hears. Apparently I'm "false" and I "follow my DH around like a dog".
The point of this whole post is - we are having a baptism for my son on Mothers Day - of course we have invited them and sent out the invites etc - we haven't heard if they are coming or not - if she does show up there is going to be a HUGE amount of tension and I just don't know the best way to deal with her. In the past she has always been rude to me ( I don't like seafood and everytime we go there for dinner - guess what she cooks - SEAFOOD ) and she heats me up a frozen dinner after she has served everyone else! It's so embarrassing because it's like she's constantly trying to let me know what she thinks of me ....... I just don't know how to deal with her anymore :banghead:
