Hi All,
Who has had baby monitors previously with their kids?
Was it a fandangled sensor pad type jobbie or just the normal walkie talkie sound thing??
Got one you recommend? Or do you think they aren't necessary?
Any input would be great cause this is the last item we need to purchase
I had one with both my DDs and will be using it with DS.
Its the sensor one for the heatbeat . It just meant i was able to sleep at nights knowing there was an alarm ready to wake me if God Forbid something happened.
I switched the sensor off after DD was able roll over and back.
Then stopped using the monitor about the same time too.
We have one - just the monitor, not the breathing sensor. After about a week we turned it off. Honestly we just don't use it and our house is really long and narrow. I still hear DS when he wakes.
I found that when I became a mum I developed super sensitive hearing to his every noise.
The one time we do use it is when we have people over and we have the doors closed and there is more noise so it's harder to hear him.
I think it depends on your house - how far away are you from the room your bubs will be in, are you cosleeping or rooming in with bubs, in the evening when you have put bubs down for a nap and you are yet to go to bed, will you be able to hear OK?
We seriously thought about the breathing sensor monitor too. I decided that I personally didn't need to add the worry of false alarms. I understand they are great though if you have a prem baby or a baby with health issues.
i have the basic type i use mine heaps, used it up till they were about 2.5 when they had a sleep. was great if i wanted to be outside hanging washing vacuuming pool or having a bbq. i use mine now with bubs when i have a shower

Thankfully we havent had a false alarm as yet.:fingerscrossed: Can you imagine how worried you'd be.

i bought the angelbaby one with the sensor pads ...was brilliant just for peace of mind.
I still use the monitor port as we have a 2 story house - and DD's room is upstairs.

We have the walkie talkie type. I found I didn't need to use it during the night because I could always hear when DS woke up, but it was handy during the day if I wanted to go outside and do a few things in the yard, I could clip the monitor to my clothes and always hear him when he stirred. Just a bit of peace of mind I guess.

We were exactly the same.

I know! I am pretty nervy at the best of times. I would probably have a heart attack (literally).

I have a babycom monitor, just a walkie talkie type.
I have literaly just taken it out of DD's bedroom (she's just turned 3 recently) and put it in an adjoining room so we can still hear her if anything drastic happens. I will use it for this bubby too as we have a very large house, our bedroom at the front of the house, kids rooms down the other end.
We always kept DD's bedroom door shut overnight, as she slept better and didn't get up after moving to a big bed, and I knew once she was older I would never hear her in the middle of the night without it.
Now her door is open, but we will have the monitor in the baby's room next door to hers so I'll be able to hear both kids. Although I think my "mummy sensor" will kick in again shortly, and I'll hear everything again!!
I plan on getting one with the sensor. A friend had one and had a few false alarms, because babies do stop breathing sometimes, just like grown ups do. But about 12 months ago it went off and they jumped out of bed and her daughter had stopped breathing. They performed CPR and the ambulance came and lukily they revived her. The doctors said that a few more minutes or not breathing and she would not have made it.
My friend said all the false alarms in the world are worth it for peace of mind.

Same here. We don't use it at all during the day or night routinely. I only pop it on if i am taking the others outside etc for a play, or if i have heaps of noisy visitors over, so may not hear him wake.
I also take mine if we go to friends/family's homes for dinner etc or for parties. If the kids will be sleeping while we are there it is easy not to hear them... so we take it and can then hear if they are sleeping soundly, or if they are playing and not sleeping, or if they wake. Well worth having, but i wouldn't spend a lot of money one one ( JMO)... ours was actually a gift.

Hello Ladies,
I have an angel care monitor. My little DD stopped breathing on more than one occasion. she has aponea. even though the monitor seems to give lots of false alarms like when she completly rolls off of the pads it has given me the biggest feeling of releif that i can actually sleep soundly now knowing i will be woken if she does stop breathing. Luckily DD has only had to be revived once. The other times just shaking her will pull her out of it and remind her to breath. I had a little monitor called respisense and i would definalty not recommend it to anyone. Im not sure if mine was fauly but it went off 6-8 times a night. it was horrible and none of the time was there a problem. it is just a little monitor that clips on the nappy and it vibrates if no breathing for a bit then send off a screetching alrm if breathing is still not present for a further 5 seconds. But i cannot recomend the angel care monitors enough!
Hope my story helps!

We had one with DS & TBH we found it pretty useless. We could hear him anywhere in the house & he had a soft cry. We wont be using one with this baby when she comes because our bedroom is now right next to the lougeroom & if we're out the back we'll be able to hear her because our bedroom window faces out the back.

We had the Angelcare one with the breathing monitor for DS when he was tiny. The breathing alarm went off once and we were able to run in and check he was ok, so to me it was worth it. Now he's older and we have bubby on the way the new bub will use the breathing monitor and we have a simple sound monitor for toddler DS - that way we can hear when he wakes up immediately, his room is a bit too far to hear properly otherwise.

I use a basic one for day sleeps by BabyCom, mainly because the walls and doors in our apartment are really sound proof and without the monitor I wouldn't hear DS until he is hysterical :(. He sleeps either in his Leander toddler bed so that he can get out himself when he wakes or in his pram, so I like to be able to go to him as soon as he wakes up, otherwise he gets really upset.
For night time we don't need it because we co-sleep :goodvibes:
