View Full Version : How early did you stop wrapping?
DS2 is 3 months and I am curious as to when other people stopped wrapping. I wrap DS2 really tightly but I would like to stop wrapping him as I can't leave him with anyone else for any period of time as no one (other than hubby) wraps like us. I am a bit hesitant though as DS2 sleeps 12 hours at night and settles well during the day. I just find it a pain.
So - did anyone else stop wrapping bub fairly early - even when they still liked it? Did you do the one arm out thing or just stop cold turkey? DS1 was 5 months and was incredibly easy - he just rolled over and cuddled his teddy. DS2 doesn't roll over yet so I am not sure what he will do.
no ideas - but i wanted to bump this as i'd like to know too

I wrapped Grub until he was about 11 mths old then I started leaving one arm out of the wrap for a week, then his other arm so he was only wrapped around his waste...
With Bug, he never really like being wrapped so never did it for him!
Maybe also you could try wrapping him a little looser ever night?
i stopped wrapping my dd in maybe the first month or so...
shes nearly 4 months old now and sleeps fine in her cot by herself!!!
but she alsays managed to get out of her wrap... she doesnt like being confined too much so it was easy...
sometimes it might help if you gradually stop wrapping them...
maybe during the day see how they go without being wrapped... try a sleeping bag or gro bag.. they are quite good
good luck!

I stopped wrapping DS when he was about 6 days old and DD when we came home from hospital at 1 day old.
I stopped wrapping DD around 3 1/2 months because she would wriggle out of it half the time and wake herself up. I also found that I couldn't wrap her tight enough. I started by not wrapping her for one sleep during the day (the first as this was the easiest for her) then as she got used to that I stopped wrapping her for the other day sleeps. After about a week of her settling well unwrapped we started leaving her unwrapped at night (and then faced the blanket kicking problem).
I chose to stop during the day first because that's when I had more time and patience to give her extra support to settle (which I don't have so much of at 3 in the morning). We had to occassionally wrap her when she got really unsettled or over tirred, but completely stopped after about 3 or 4 weeks.

I stopped wrapping both of mine when they were about 3.5 -4 months....they then got upgraded to using sleeping bags!!! lol Didn't have any trouble with them!
I stopped wrapping DS1 when we left the hospital :p so he was 5days old. He hated it from the word go.
With DS2 I think he was about 3mnths when I stopped. I never wrapped him with his arms in or he'd just scream. I only wrapped him from the armpits down then stopped cold turkey.

I didn't stop wrapping DS until he was about 7 months old. As someone has already said maybe you could try wrapping him a bit looser every few days. Then eventually let one arm out, then the other, then stop all together. You could find too that it may not be the wrapping thats making him unhappy in other peoples care. it could be that he just wants you.

Hi there
I stopped wrapping London sometime in the first month. He hated it though - he always wanted his arms up beside he's head. So I just bought a few baby sleeping bags and he uses them and he sleeps for around 10 hours straight through at night.

i have stopped wrapping DD within the past week... so 7weeks old as she loves having her hands out in the open and she sleeps much better. although with your DS, i would be hesitant as he is such a great sleeper. maybe just wrap him a little bit looser every time you wrap him until he gets used to it...
remember... your the boss!

My babies never wanted to be wrapped.
At about 8 weeks we stopped wrapping and since then have used the grobag instead.
My ds was wrapped until 10 months, he loved it. We did stop at 3 1/2 months but after 3 weeks of frequent night & day waking we went back to wrapping and he was sleeping wonderfully again. We just gave mum education sessions on how to wrap :) and she eventually got better at it.
I wrapped till about six months, both hands in, then started with one hand out, then just torso wrapped and so on, it is all very individual. Jasper loved being wrapped, Josh hated it.
Thanks for all your replies. I'll keep wrapping for the moment - I think I was just feeling lazy yesterday! I should clarify that DS2 isn't unsettled when he is with other people - he just wakes himself up a lot with his hands. We don't have family close by and only a few friends that can mind the boys if we need anyone. The wrapping is an extra burden on them that I don't want to be a hassle for them.
I'll just wait til he is a bit older I guess.
