Can anyone recommend a natural bath oil for my dd's eczema. I currently use 'Grahams' Bath oil but it is quite expensive when using every bath time. $20 for 120ml. I was wondering if just plain olive oil would do the same job or perhaps emu or almond oil etc?? (I do try to stay away from any chemist bought products as I don't like all the chemicals) TIA :)

I would stay away from nut or sesame oil, personally (for the reason that they might FLARE eczema if there is any allergy or sensitivity to them) - but frequently use olive oil in my own bath and think it would substitute well for actual bath oil.

I would stay away from emu oil - actually any emu products all together!

I would try using some bio oil on your eczema & also put some "Selsun" (yes the shampoo) on the areas & let dry.

When i had eczema i did this & it worked wonders. There is also a product from health food shops called "Moo Goo" - charming i know but really good & all natural!

Good luck sweets:hugs:

Great to know, I thought it would be ok as it is the main ingredient in this special Eczema oil I got from the health food shop.

Hi.
I have actually tried olive oil in my DDs bath and think it's fine but it doesn't spread as well as the special bath oils like QV or Alpha Keri Oil (which is what I use). Because they are water dispersible they just cover the skin better. I found DD's skin much better coated from the Keri Oil than the olive oil.

HTH.

Def QV Bath oil. It's great.

My daughter had a reaction to QV bath oil, and it burnt off all her skin below her waist. Our paediatric dermatologist said that she sees that sort of reaction to QV in young children all the time, and to tread with caution when it comes to the QV products. The QV cream can also have a burn-ey reaction. I recommend Dermaveen. It has natural colloidial oatmeal in it, and always makes my DD's skin (she used to suffer from excema) irritation free.

I have eczema and so does my 23 month old daughter. I bathe her in QV bath oil and then moisturise her with QV dry skin cream (avail in chemists). I know not all things work the same for everybody as I have experienced all my life with eczema. But I don't think almond oil is a good choice can really make you itchy if you have eczema.

Thanks luamli, we have tried QV and it has not been that effective but there are a few others that are simular that I may try. I just was hoping to find something a bit more natural?? Thanks anyways :)

Alpha Keri oil works fantastic i useit for DD, my mother used it on us kids and i know of a few other families that use it also

you only need a small amount as it goes far

you can pick it up at any chemist.

For natural products (for bathing) have you tried Gaia or Aromababy? Gaia didn't work on my little girl but the woman that created it did so as she wanted a natural alternative for her son that had terrible eczema. I was given sample packs of Aromababy and have found them great for my daughter (just haven't gotten round to buying them). These are non irritating bath and moisturising products that don't further irritate my daughter but if the eczema is persistent, weepy and red sometimes I have to use Dermaid unfortunately not natural 1% cortisone but very low dose and I use it very sparingly. SOmetimes only once every few weeks on her.

biooil and alphakeri oil contain lanolin - wool oil. some eczema people react to it and some don't. Like you said its trial and error. both are at the chemist and biooil (I use it myself but I don't have ezcema) is at big W and so on.

I use the gaia body wash for bubs and it works fine. when she has a flair up I put some oatmeal in a stocking and let it sit in the bath and squeeze it over her skin for a lovely milky moisturiser then put on a moisturiser after the bath. My doctor recommended david craig brand of moisturiser which is inexspensive from the chemist and contains barley any ingredients. Before that i'd use qv kids balm which was thick and nice.

just look at the ingredients when you buy. there are lots of natural products that cost heaps. I just saw a new one in the chemist called natural instinct but i haven't tried it yet.

So far I found dermaveen moisturiser good because of the oatmeal in it but as for a bath, oatmeal in a stocking works just as well for me.

I like the sound of olive oil, might try it!
