Today my Dr gave me a referal for a gyn. We are going to call first thing and make an appointment, but we were told it can be a bit of a wait.

Im just wondering can anyone tell me what the gyn might do for us? Is there a set thing they look at first of all? Is there certain tests or will it just depend on our situation?

Sorry Im just a little impatient :p

Hey there. I got referred to a gyn when Clomid didn't work for me for 6 mths (even tho I ovulated every month.) She sent me and my partner for BT's, and me for an internal ultrasound. She also sent him for a sperm test. When all these results came back, she said he had a lowish sperm count, wasn't that bad tho. So she said I could either keep trying.. or go to IVF. I couldn't bare the thought of waitng, so we turned to IVF.
Don't be worried about it, they'll just want to do a few tests I'm assuming, and also want to know ur history of TTC. PM me anytime if u want anymore info.

All the best and take care
Nat xx

Hi I was in the same position as you at the beginning of the year!! We were referred to a gyno after we found out that me and hubby were perfectly fine just not concieving! It took me ages to get into to see her - my initial appointment was suppose to be june and I was not waiting that long so I kept ringing every week then 1 day i was lucky they had a cancellation and becuase I rang she gave me the appointment so Firstly she put me on a 50mg dose of Clomid, after 2 months upped it 100mg with the addition of pregnoyl which still has not worked so I am backed to see her again! Im pretty sure we are going IVF now we are not waiting any longer! Good Luck and :wizard::babydust2: to you!

They will get you and family background, probably do an u/s to look for endo, PCOS, fibroids etc. Then based on that, they wll do further stuff according to diagnosis like laparoscopy, ordering bloods, and perscribing meds.

Thanks for that ladies. My appointment is in 2 weeks today which will be cd28 so it gives us the rest of this cycle. Im a bit nervous but also really excited. But Im a bit confused as I no quite a few ladies have pain nothing to see a gyn but ours will cost us $65 out of pocket, why couldnt we get one that bulk bills :(

good luck with you appointment! they will probably ask lots of questions (also questions re: if your mum had any fertility problems, cysts etc) & going by your answers may do an internal ultrasound, then go from there.

I personally have no problems paying for doctors because of all the study & hard work they do & the pitiful amount that medicare pay them if they do bulkbill... I have no concerns paying someone for a haircut, so why should i when it comes to my health - especially if i'm desperate with TTC. That's just the way i see it. if you're not happy to pay for your doctor, speak to your gp & see if they can refer u to someone who won't charge you an out of pocket. there may be longer waiting periods as bulk billing doctors seem to get booked out very easily!

Hi Jamaica,

I went back to see my obgyn in May about possible 'secondary infertility'. I had already had the internal ultrasound through my doc to check for any signs of anything and that was fine, and various bloodtests including progesterone levels to check I was ovulating and they were fine too.

I guess the first thing your gyno will do is send you off for all of those including a sperm check if you havent already had them done. If you havent, I'd suggest you have them all done through your GP as then they are generally bulk billed. It seems as soon as your gyn starts referring you off for those tests they cost $$.

My first appt was about $180 ($130 out of pocket), and subsequent appts are $90 ($50 out of pocket).

Seeing as all my tests came back fine I am now booked in for a laparoscopy in two weeks time as there are some things they cant check for (endo) in a scan.

Goodluck, I hope you have your BFP very soon!

My OB (who is also a GYN) has done more extensive testing than you'd expect your GP to order. As fertility isn't our issue, she ordered a lot of gene testing and checking my blood for any disorders. These all came back clear, so our next step is a hysteroscopy on the 6th August to check out my uterus from the inside.

I'm very grateful that we have been seeing the same OBGYN for all of my pregnancies/miscarriages (she even delivered DD) as she knows all of my history first hand.

:fingerscrossed: we get some answers.

Hi

I am in the same position as you. I actually had to wait 3 months to get into my gyno, who was actually my obst for my first 2 kids.

I had my appt this week, she straight away did a papsmear for me and checked me internally, she said it all looked good inside (sorry tmi) then she discussed my health issues and if hubby has any, then she sent me for blood tests to make sure im ovulating, checking my rubella etc. She then game me a form for my hubby to get his sperm tested, and she has arranged for me to have an ultrasound and check of my tubes and ovaries (im very nervous about it, im a huge sook with medical things).

she then booked me in to see her in 6 weeks, by this time she should have back all the tests results and we will go from there.

But she did ask me if was interested in IVF and i said NO. I am happy with the 2 gorgeous kids i have, if i cant have another one naturally, then its just not my time to have another one.

I wish you all the best with your appt.

Keep me posted.

B&Bsmummy- sounds like they wasted no time and got right on top of things, I hope you get some answers really soon.

Im really quite excited about seeing the gyno! It also makes this cycle a little less stressful.

My GP mentioned sperm count testing and doing my bloods but being as Ive had problem after problem since the D&C she said she would prefer I see a gyno.
