View Full Version : Storage Solutions
Howdie
We are living in a small two bedroom place at the moment and it always feels cluttered (drives me insane). Am wanting to try and clean out the garage and store as much as I can in there until we move (in about 12 months). Most stuff I've put in big plastic storage boxes but am concerned about how to store clothing and linen. I find the vaccuum bags hopeless as they never seem to be able to keep the air out and just inflate. Any ideas?

I'm the same. Our Ikea store has only just opened here in Adelaide but from their catelogue they seem to have FABULOUS storage solutions. I'll be heading out there once I feel less cumbersome:D

I have gotten myself these large storage tubs from Big W that have a sealable lid. I have put all DD's old clothes in there (in case a friend has a baby) and I have another one filled with new clothes that are still too big. Keeps them fresh and all the bug etc out.
They are really cheap too.
Thanks Polony. Do you think they will keep clothes and linen fresh in the garage?

I've got underbed storage bags for excess toys, zachs old baby blankets and cot sheets and some boy baby clothes.
I use the big storage tubs for toys too and for clothes I've bought for the kids to grow into.. and christmas presents lol
I have baskets in the tops of the cupboard too with the kids craft stuff in it
We have two bedrooms between us atm only theres 5 of us (soon to be 6) so you can imagine that every inch is full of 'things' can't WAIT til we are in our own place but doesnt start getting built til june so won't be in until christmas :(

What if you packed the stuff into the vacuum bags then before they get the chance to inflate again pack them into some big plastic boxes? If you already have some of the bags then you just need to buy a few boxes and you'll be able to fit heaps more into each box too :)
I have gotten myself these large storage tubs from Big W that have a sealable lid we have them (but not from Big W LOL) , my mum has had material stored in some for over 2 years, and its still fine, but hasnt been any white stuff, so dont know if that discolours ect.
we had, um... 5 adults and 5 kids in a 4bed house and had to put alot of stuff in storage in mums shed. All came back out fine too (toys, etc)

I've stored heaps of DD's clothes in the plastic crates (we'd be looking at 7 or 8 crates full!) and the only thing I've found is they need to be washed really well when you go to use them again as they have a distinct plastic smell to them. Like anything that's been in storage, I guess.
Apart from that,

Put some kind of mould or mildew balls in there to soak up any moisture - don't know what they're called??!!
