Hi,

Has anyone else had a little boy who has had to have an op for a hydrocele that didn't resolve itself????

Just wondering if it was all as straight forward as the Dr says?? How did your little man recover???

Cheers,
Bec

Hi there,
Where is the hydrocoele on your baby?
I can't really help much with any info as my 7mo boy had a hydrocoele in his testes for about 4 months but it resolved spontaneously about a month ago. I had been warned about him having to have an op when he was about 4 yrs old if it continued. I'm sorry I can't help with anymore info. Goodluck with your baby.
Maybe a good place for info would be contacting the surgeon who is doing it- my son has numerous GIT problems and my contact with various peads and gastro paeds has been very positive and reassuring- they all know what they are talking about and are pretty open to contact at all hours :).
Once again, goodluck!

My youngest son had a hydrocele and was operated on at around 18 months. It was day surgery and didn't take long at all. He had a small cut on the left side of his tummy and that was it. They gave him a 'baby epidural' for pain relief and then he was on pain-stop for a max of 2 days. We went home about 1 1/2 hours after he came out of recovery. He went straight back the next day to being full of beans :)
We had two appointments a couple of months apart before they operated, as the hydrocele can sometimes go away on their own. DS's went up and down all the time but never went fully away. If it had gone away fully then we wouldn't have had the operation.
I was worried before the surgery as he was my first child to have an operation, but it was all fine. I just made hubby go in with DS as he was being put under because I knew I'd cry.
If your DS needs surgery, please don't worry. It's a short day surgery
Good luck!
