Nipple Size???

I'll apologize if this is TMI but something that I am curious about being a first timer....

I know that your nipple/areola is supposed to get larger and darker during pregnancy... but just at what stage does this happen the most...

I am now 26 weeks pregnant, and whilst my breast size has grown considerably, my nipples/areola are only slightly bigger than pre-pregnancy, when they were by no means big at all....

Is this something that happens closer to birth??? I'm not really sure how big to expect them to get, or even if there is a norm in relation to this....

I have been excreting colostrum (again TMI) so everything appears to be working well so far, but will it effect my ability to breastfeed if they don't get to a certain size???

My breasts, nipples & areolas are the same size now that i was as a 18yr old (i'm a DD though) :smiliedance: No enlargement at all. I've also got very pale, very small nipples & while it was tricky in the beginning, i'm still bf MJ at 11months :)

I waited and waited and mine never changed at all! I had some colostrum from about 5 months preg and have been happily bf for 14 months and am pregnant again and they still look the same to me! Nipple size or shape should have nothing to do with your ability to bf successfully!!

Don't get me wrong, in one respect I would love for them to stay just the size they are, but I really would looooove to breastfeed too!

Mine didn't change much at all during my first pregnant, this time around they have grown visibly but only in the last couple of weeks. Mine do get much much darker though. I think it all depends on each individual woman, and each individual pregnancy.

I worried about it too whilst pg because they didnt change. In regards too bf, size doesnt matter :thumbsup:

mine have gotten bigger already... i hate it. they are the size of dinner plates and I dont find them attractive at all!!!! :(

I went from a 10A cup to a 16D with my first child but after feeding for a while went back to an A cup - I had so much milk I had to wrap my babies in towels so as not to drown them so size definitely doesn't matter (in this case anyway!!) and in respect to change in nipples I never really noticed any.

I breastfed all my children successfully to at least 12 months only stopping each time as I got to about 3 months into the next pregnancy as it just exhausted me too much.

This is our last so maybe this little one will feed longer

Im only in the first trimester and mine are already much larger. My areola's are almost twice the size they were and my nipples are also rather large now. I used to only have little nipples, but now when they are hard, they are massive. My boobies themselves were a DD cup, I haven't bothered checking their size yet, but my bras don't fit so good anymore, I have to go buy some new ones in the not too distant future.

The first time round I don't think they changed much and I breastfed just fine for 4 months until I got an infection, and Noah decided he wanted formula.
This time round they are huge and darker, who knows. I don't think it matters what they look like, breastfeeding takes work for most people and if you hang in there you will be just fine no matter what your nipples look like :hugs:

My bb's have grown from a B to a D cup but my nipples etc are the same size .. no change at all except possibly a bit darker. Having said that, they were always on the small side anyway. I dont think this affectes BF in any way though

My nipples didn't change through either pregnancy. I leaked colostrum more through my first pg than my 2nd.

mine get darker, really dark, but so do all my moles, i wonder why that is:confused:

I went from a B to a D almost overnight and have stayed there.

My areolas have enlarged to twice the size, which is a bit freaky but kind of cool. Apparently they go back to what they were. The nipples have stayed the same, maybe slightly bigger.

I have no leakage of anything yet.

I just hope they work.
