Hi Girls,
Im new to the site so hello to everyone first of all!
Just had some concerns, It all started back in March 2007 when I had an abnormal Pap Smear which, after this some tests which confirmed i had high grade cell changes on the cervix.
I then had the LLETZ procedure in June last year where they removed the affected area of the cervix.
Went back to the specialist in October and then May for follow up tests and all has been clear so far....
I am scheduled for another Pap Smear in May/June next year so I need to hurry about TTC and if it doesnt happen soon, put it off until May/June as I was told you can only have pap smears in early pregnancy.
Anyway ive done enough rambling im worried about pushing it for time, but these things happen when they happen anyway but I also wanted to know if anyone else had had this procedure or similar and did you have any difficulties TTC? Ive heard you have a higher chance of M/C?
Just wanted to hear from any of you who know about this?
Thanks :):)

hi shan
i had lletz last may (but u already knew that!)
my gyn said not to ttc for the first yr in case it came back... but he said it was fine to start trying now... he basically said that u r pretty screwed if you get tested while ur pregnant it comes back positive cause then u have to decide what to do about the surgery / pregnancy...
have u asked ur doc about it? given ur family history he might say something different...
i'm having a follow up at 18 months as well (if i dont fall pregnant first), perhaps u could fit one in at 18 months (if u dont fall pregnant) that way it wont be so long in between check ups if u fall preggers before may next yr
there are a few old posts around from girls who havent had probs ttc after lletz, i'm scared about M/C too.. but i havent actually heard of this happening to anyone so :fingerscrossed:
sorry to thread jack!
but what is LLETZ?
i had high grade cervical changes at my last papsmear (5wks ago) and had a biopsy done last week, and i have to have surgery done in august. is the surgery the lletz? I dont know the name of the surgery just that it cuts the effected areas out of my cervix.
sorry again for thread jacking!

Yeah im only worried as you know about the whole p/smear being due next May/June..... all fine so far but these things happen. The Doctors know about my family history. I had my check up with my DR before we started TTC to make sure about everything and she only said the p/smear bit would be the main concern.
At least I have someone to speak to about it all who is in the same boat!
But thats a good idea about having one 18 months later, I might book in for another one in November if im not pregnant.
These things are a pain arent they? I know it has to be done and worse things happen but it's almost like the worry over rides being excited.

Well the procedure varies, depending on each situation but yes that sounds like it might be what you will have. They just remove the affected area..... just wasnt sure if anyone had experienced difficulties after having this done.
You will be right, its actually scary how common this is.
thanks, im cra*ping myself about it! i think its just the whole being under a general knowing the drs are going to be 'down there' aghh
so you cant ttc for a year after the procedure? they didnt tell me that! i asked if it would affect getting preg/staying preg/giving birth and they said it wouldnt.... so thats the main thing i guess. thanks again!

No you can start TTC but afterwards you have follow ups, 6 monthly so if you are planning on having a baby the follow ups can disrupt that only in the fact that its best not to try straight away incase your follow up tests came back with a bad result.
I have had two 2 monthly check ups with another due in 12 months so hoping to conceive pretty much straight away with all luck so that i would have had the baby by the time my next check up i due? If any of that makes sense??
You will be fine, you will be out to it before they start looking at you! It's not too worrying just a relief to have it done.

Hi, I had the lletz procedure done back in 2000 and have been clear since....had my first child in 2004 and the second in 2006, so not exactly the same as your time-scale - DS1 did take a while to come along but that had nothing to do with the lletz, more irregular cycles, and we had no trouble ttc DS2.
myQTboys - I was really nervous about having it done, but it wasn't bad at all in the end - I think the whole thing was over in about half an hour. The 'lletz' loop (according to my basic understanding) kind of burns off the affected area - I think there is a current or something running through the loop, so its not a 'cut' as such. I'm not entirely sure but it may depend on the grade of abnormality as to what surgery they do though, so hopefully your doctor can explain it all a bit better for you :).
Hope that helps.

I had a pap smear come back as having CIN III. I had a Llettz procedure done in the late October of 05, had my 6 week post op check in the Dec and fell pregnant over the xmas/new year period and had my DS2 in Oct 06.
My Gyn told me to go ahead with TTC straight after my 6 week post op check. I was told that there "may be" a slight chance of cervical incompetence but I went on to have my boy at 42weeks.
I had my next pap smear at my 6wk postnatal check and it was all ok.
Goodluck with TTC. I hope you get your BFP soon.
