I just have to sing the praises of my slow cooker from the roof tops! I am in love :bee:
As a Christmas gift, my mum gave me the slow cooker with a folder that she filled with recipes that I grew up on and loved as a kid. It was the best gift that I have ever received!
Not only have I saved $ on buying cheaper cuts of meat (that end up tasting divine) but I've learned how to save myself time during the witching hour in the evening, and how to actually cook healthy meals that are stress-free and hassle-free! :flowerz:
I've cooked roast's, lamb shanks, stews, casseroles and tonight am having Greek Lamb with Greek potatoes :chef:
I just thought I would begin a slow cooker appreciation thread - because I LOVE mine and figured theres got to be others out there who LOOOOVE theirs just as much :goodvibes:

I love mine too :flowerz:
I love that I can put everything together at night after the kids are in bed.
I love that in the morning all I do is move it from the fridge and turn it on.
I love when you walk into the house after a day out and smell that divine smell.
I love that meat just falls apart.

Wow what a lovely thoughtful present MOT.
I think I need a slow cooker, at work they have been holding slow cooker cooking lessons in order to encourage healthy eating to busy office worker types.

Sorry I didn't get back online last night!
Right - I dont really use a 'set' recipe as such... Just kinda throw a few things in together!
Greek Lamb
About 1/4cup olive oil
Few squirts of lemon juice
Crushed garlic
Parsley and Rosemary
Mix all together and make sure to rub it into the lamb well. Doesn't matter what kind of lamb you use - the other night I just used a single shank! 4hrs on high or 8hrs on low. Can finely slice some potatoes and carrots and baste them as well, put them at the bottom of the cooker and the meat on top - delicious!
Roast Chicken
Pretty much the same as the lamb - but without the lemon juice, but with onion. Oh and use oregano instead of rosemary with 1cup of chicken stock liquid in bottom of the cooker.
Apricot Chicken
1kg chicken pieces (I like drumsticks - cheap and easy to eat)
Tin of apricot nectar (700mL I think)
Packet of french onion soup mix
Mix the soup mix through the apricot nectar. Put the chicken pieces in the bottom of the slow cooker and pour the nectar mix over top. Serve with rice and steamed vegies. 4hrs on High or 8hrs on Low
Pumpkin Soup
1kg pumpkin chopped into 2-3cm cubes
1 onion
3 whole garlic cloves
Nutmeg
Cream to taste
1 cup of stock (vegetable is good but chicken will do)
Chop up pumpkin pieces and put them in the bottom of the slow cooker. Peel onion and put 3 holes in it, and kind of shove the garlic cubes into the holes in the onion. Pour stock over pumpkin. 4-6hrs on high or 8-10hrs on low
Remove and discard onion and garlic (could use for another dish - maybe pickle it or something - but I usually throw it away.) Remove pumpkin and stock from crock pot and pour into a mixing bowl and use hand-blender (bamix or something similar) to blend and puree the pumpkin. Add 1/4tsp Nutmeg and cream to taste. Delicious!!! Dont add cream if you intend on freezing - add it when its being served.
Umm - I have others but need to brainstorm lol... I think there is a slow cooker thread around somewhere.

i lurve my slow cooker! curried sausages in it for us tonight for dinner. yum!!!
1kg sausages (i put a bit more in)
1 large tin diced tomatos
4 cups beef stock
2 carrotts
1 onion
2 cloves of garlic (but i usually forget)
celery (i usually put 3 sticks in)
beans (about a cup or a cup and a half)
2 or 3 tbs curry powder (depending on how curry you want it)
2 tbs flour (to thicken)
cut sausages into inch pieces, cut carrots, onion, garlic, celery. throw everything into the slow cooker & cook on low for the day (8-10 hrs).
serve with rice, mashed potato or on toast. YUM!!!
for christmas this year we're getting family slow cookers (SIL & her hubbie, BIL & his g/f & SIL & her b/f). makes trying to get somthing for the partners easy as it's a joint pressie & i think definately worth it!!! Not something you'd really go out and buy just for the sake of it, but once you have it - you can't believe how you ever lived wihout one!!
