My 4 month old dd has eczema, she was born two weeks late so had dry skin from birth but it has progressively got worse, started off with health nurse saying it was dermatitis and to wash with qv oil and apply qv cream/lotion daily. It started off as just really red inflamed skin in the craeses of her neck but now she is almost completely covered in dry red eczema which is worse behind knees etc, have tried every cream with no relief and she only wears cotton so now having read it could be a cows milk alergy that can trigger itb (would get her tested but health nurse said its a 2 year wait for the royal childrens!!!) i have decided to take her off dairy, she was beeing breast and bottle fed but am now exclusively formula feeding (medically i cant cut dairy from my diet) she was on s26 gold 1 and now am trying s26 soy (the red tin) but what i want to know is karicare ha better or should i have tried goats milk?? So far she seems better on the soy (only been one day) but redness is subsiding and she dosnt sound as flemmy(sp?) while drinking. Any advise appretiated sorry this is so long :)

Eczema is a hit and miss, my middle two have it, both react so differently to the same cream its really a case of what works for you if that makes sense.

I cant help much with the formula but i would suggest maybe an appointment with a paed to see what they say first you will get in alot quicker.

Clothing wise, cotton is best as your prob already aware but i find with my 3yo's clothes i only wash her clothes with a tea spoon of amolin, nothing else, the sun bleaches out any stains etc. if i use anything else, (i can use soap nuts too) her skin is a mess. I cant use sorbelene on any of my two, QV works then it seems they get conditioned to it so i have to use hamiltons (sp??) with a combination of steriod creams and cold wraps etc.

One thing that i found really makes it all come undone is when people cuddle her, shes a mess again and i didnt think that a simple cuddle from someone wearing clothes that were washed in stuff she reacts too could affect her so badly, so perhaps treat your washing the same way as hers :) it really makes a difference.

It is all hit and miss though really, what works for some doesnt work for others, speak to a pead and see what they can come up with good luck with it its horrible

yes I know how you feel, when DD was newborn and had bad bad eczema, people would touch her face, and put her against their make-up, perfume etc...it was horrible having to remind them she has bad eczema and they were going to make it worse...
