Hi,
I am currently looking into my birthing options, and was wondering if anyone out there can tell me what Modbury Hospital is like?

I live within walking distance, so it would be great for my DH and other kids to visit. And also a difference of about $1000 in costs to me rather than my ob who goes to North Eastern Community!

I have private cover, and have spoken to the hospital and they do offer a private service (same ob all the way through and a private room - if available). I just dont know that I could handle sharing a room with other people at that time, so I would really rather go private.

Has anyone else had their baby privately through Modbury? Or public?? I know they built a new maternity section not long ago so I'm assuming it would be nice.

Thanks for your opinions!

I had three of mine at Modbury Hospital, but the last was over 18 years ago so I think it would of changed a lot since then. When I went there I did share but they were great to me in labor etc.

sorry not much help

I Had my first son in the UK, but i spent about 2 months over here in australia, and went to the modbury for my antenatal care...with the intention of staying and having him there. I will never go back to the modbury again! The doctors treated me like i was a piece of dirt on their shoes, they were annoyed at my questions, and gave me rushed, incomplete answers. they would make me wait for 10-15 minutes at a time while they took phone calls. Some even failed to do the normal things that are done at all ante-natal visits ie. blood pressure. I was a public patient, so maybe that makes a difference. I have also had a friend give birth twice at the modbury without a problem. But now i have my children at the women's and childrens!

A close friend of mine had her baby at Modbury Hospital in Feb. She highly recommends them & had no problems. She had 2 m/c prior to her daughter being born & they were great to her, very supportive.

I had Aidan at Modbury and while I was really happy with the ante-natal care and the midwives during labour it was after I had a real problem with them. Especially one of the night nurses, she made me feel really bad for asking for her help on the first night. I told one of the head nurses what had happened and she made sure that nurse wasn't to come to my room if I needed help at night. So they were really good that way. I was one of the lucky ones, I went in as a public patient but managed to get my own room.

It comes down to the luck of the draw in regards to nurses/midwives. Some are wonderful and some aren't so wonderful, it all depends if they are having a good day or not.

Sorry for :ecomcity: but I hope I have helped :fingerscrossed: with your decision

A good friend of mine recently had her third child at Modbury as a public patient and while she did have to share a room with one other lady, she said everything and everyone was great.
Love,
Nan. xx
