View Full Version : CCB FTB grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr I'm so confused
DS went into full time childcare back in January and we never bothered to complete any forms about reduced fees/subsidies. I remember talking to a woman from Centrelink(?) months ago who estimated that we would get about $1.50 a day (woo hoo!) but we would get a pro-rata lump sum (% of $4000) in our tax return.
Can someone please simplify how this works? I'm doing my tax return and I can't find anything that relates to this and it's DOING MY HEAD IN!!! :hair:
I have the patience of a gnat when it comes to these matters. Silly me still expects things to be easy to understand.
Thanks for reading

OK with childcare there are 2 payments you can receive...
Childcare Benefit which is a % off the standard daily rate (many centres charge more than the standard rate). Everyone is entitled to at least 16% minimum I think and you may get a lot more depending on your incomes. You can either have reduced fees throughout the year or just pay part/full amount and get a refund once you've done your tax. If you never registered your DS when he starting going I'll just warn you that it may takes months to get this back..........we had that problem last year
Then there is also the 30% (which this financial year has become the 50%) Out of Pocket Childcare Rebate. So basically what you paid for Childcare - what you get back from Childcare Benefit = Your Out of Pocket expenses. You'll get 30% of that amount back and this is not income tested at all.
Not sure if there's anything on your Tax Return about claiming these 2..........its more done via the Family Assistance Office once you've got your Tax Assesments back. But I think you can see if you're eligible for Family Tax Benefit payments via your Tax Returns.
Hope that helps.

Also check out familyassist.gov.au for any further info plus they have online calculators so you can kind of work out what you may be entitled to

you don't actually claim them on your tax return, but you have to have lodged your tax return before you can get the rebate.
you will need to lodge the ccb claim with centrelink/fao.
