View Full Version : Anyone tried BumGenius?
I like the look of the BumGenius pockets and was wondering if anyone has experience with these.
I especially like that they are super trim, but thats no good if they aren't absorbent.
Anyone?

i love them. because there osfm  there not good for overnight. unless you shove a bamboo booster inside maybe.. which the recent ones they have added a microfiber insert (i think) so it works out great
i love them. we used them from one month old, we added a bamboo booster at about 4 months as he is a heavy wetter. still ultra-trim tho.
i have found that the elastic has gone in most of them now, they are V2 so hopefully the new ones are better. they DID get heavily used for a year tho...

We have 3 of them and they are very absorbant and last DD up to 4 hrs with no leaks. They will last for ages too as they are OSFM. :)

I really like them, and with 2 microfibre boosters they last my DD overnight...just....lol

I tried my first the other day and I must say I found that they are generous in terms of the "rise" but they are not the hugest of nappy I have ever seen. I expected that they would fit a bit better as they were a OSFM.. but they seem good- but I use a greenkids bamboo insert inside them as I heard the booster that comes with them doesn't soak much. But yet to tray again so my views may change..
def worth a try i'd say
Is there much of a difference between the version 2 and 3? I'm kinda reluctant to spend $28 on each of them unless they're really worth it!
i brought a heap of them for my DS1 and HATED them as he would wet thru with one pee... just because the legs didnt sit right on him... but im now using them on my 11wk old and finding them fantastic lol

yes I have some of these and love them. You can easily put in a second insert if one is not enough. My son is 21 months old and I still find them to be very absorbent with the single insert that comes with them. Not good for overnight obviously though.
And yes they are the trimmest of our nappies. Itti bitti are trim too but I find the bumGenius more absorbent and a better fit on my son.

Main difference is that the V2 elastic is unreliable and can give up very quickly. V3 supposedly has a better quality elastic. To me this makes it worth spending the extra on V3. There are other small differences too, like smaller stretchy tabs.

I have 14 v2 in my collection and I use them lots. I use a bamboo boster in them though. They are my fave and I grab them over any of my others, including greenkids, itti d'lish, swaddlebees, the new bbh's and more.
Definately worth it.

The elastic went in all of mine too (V2), but I replaced it myself and they are as good as new! If I had the choice though I would go with the V3 just as one of the PPs said there was a dodgy batch of elastic in the V2s.
They have been a great nappy for us though, we use just the microfibre insert in them and they used to last for 4 hours but now we are down to 3hours as he is bigger. They are fairly trim too, as someone said there are trimmer ones out there (i.e. itti bitti) but by no means are the BG bulky.

That is good to know. I loved mine but the elastic went really quickly so I vowed not to buy one again. Might try the V3 though if they have improved it as the size and fit were great.
They are quite well known for having the elastic go early, I do like the fit though but wouldn't buy them again because of the elastic.

I love them! Probably 50% of my stash is made up of BG's! I am waiting though for the elastic to go as this is a huge problem with the V2, so if you wanted to get some, definately get the V3's!!!
I have V3's as well, and there's not a huge difference. I found they fit DS better now at 9months, than when he was say 4 or 5 months.
I just use the microfibre insert & find it great! Only get leaks when I try and push them to far. I wouldn't use them at night though. You could boost them, but i really dont like the idea of PUL overnight. I'd much prefer fitteds & soakers for nights.
You could always pick up a 2nd hand one to try out before commiting to buy more. To help lengthen the life of the elastic, hang them up by the sides rather than top or bottom, and don't use any bi-carb or vinegar...in fact, you don't need any detergent at all. I don't and my nappies rarely smell!!!!
Sorry, I've rambled! HTH's!

*sigh* ... I agree... it's so depressing when you have a pile of BG's with elastic that's 'gone' just 12 months after they were purchased... and that are now out of warranty...
Won't go back there.
Why don't you try buying a Haute Pocket instead?
It's better than BG... and it's AUSTRALIAN!! Let's support Aussie businesses instead of sending our money back to the US.
Hautes come in heaps of colours, snap or velcro closure, OSFM, and two contoured microfibre inserts.
My DD got a rash from the suede fleece in BGs, but she never had a problem with Hautes. I've also never had an elastic problem as mentioned with BGs.

I completly agree. they are the first ones i reach for!!
I LOVE my BG. I have a very heavy wetter so they are no good overnight but they are perfect for the day. great fit and easy to put together. I have 2.0, bought them very cheap when the 3.0 came out and so far no problems.
