Hmm so hard to describe but i went to my gp and he said its not thrush and its one of those things
Whenever dd latches on i get this sudden itch like a OMG i just need to itch that now, and it almost hurts as well, its so hard to describe. I thought it was thrush but well now my gps saying its not, i have no sign of it apparently. I have noticed it alot more lately and have had it on and off since dd was about 3 months old but now its every feed. Its like a burning tingling itch itch itch me feeling, if that makes sense.
Anyone had this and is there a secret to stopping it, honestly when she feeds i feel like just taking her off and scratching but once shes off its gone

Hey punkbaby when Julius was very little and in the first few weeks of breastfeeding I got the same thing your describing.I did not know what it was?? I bought thrush cream for my nipples and put it on but it didnt seem to stop.
Sometimes I still get that ichty burning feeling, I really dont have any idea what it is.

Try lanolin? sometime's I put lanolin on and it helps a bit.
So it's only itchy during feeding? Thrush tends to be itchy after a feed. Are there any white spots? Is your nipple red at all? Are there any white spots inside your baby's mouth?
If there is a tingling, burning, itchiness, I would really advise against using lanolin or any other such product (sorry Neo :p ) as if it it the precursor to thrush, it can seal it into the ducts. Intraductal thrush is extremely painful and extremely resilient, really tough to get rid of.
Try taking 2000mgs of vitamin C every 3 hours, see if that makes a difference. Otherwise, go and see a lactation consultant. GPs don't really know an incredible amount about lactation and it's many and varied issues.

Thanks Beany
Its really odd. As i said i have had it at random sort of periods since she was younger, but i just worked out then its started more regulary, all the time, since she changed her cluster/comfort feed times. About a month ago she started waking at 2am and feeding till 5am....shes still doing it. I find this is the time she seems to cluster feed but its more a combination of cluster and comfort if that makes sense, either way she dont let go for those 3 hours :)
Its only when shes feeding, its more so after shes been on for a few minutes then i get that itch. My nipples are all clear, normal colour, her mouth is fine, nothing around her genitals, or mine TMI sorry but yeah, so i cant see any obvious signs of thrush. It is horrible as it ruins those moments, i love BF and i love that whole snuggling/feeling of awe etc but this seems to have me thinking Oh gosh hurry up i need to itch and its a horrible thing to feel that way, but its sooo annoying. Once shes off its gone.
Will give the vitamin C a go otherwise might have to see about seeing a LC.
It just seems so wierd that once shes off, its gone, i cant work it out
Has it just started recently or has it always been like this? Has her attachment changed maybe so she's tickling you more as she sucks? Perhaps try a different feeding position, see if it makes a difference.
Can you wander around topless for extended periods? It might help to air your nipples a bit, to let them heal after all that use.

Could she be teething?? Their saliva changes when they are teething and can cause your nipples to become painful/raw feeling/etc. A friend told me about this the other day and it really clicked for us as we go through stages where my nipples feel super tender when ds is feeding, kinda like a itchy pinchy kinda feeling.........almost as though attachment is wrong but it's not.
Sorry, kinda a hard to describe how it feels!
I get the same thing PB - not as severe as it sounds like you get it though. I was thinking it's a let down feeling. I never got any let down feeling until this started about a week ago. Let me know if you find out what it is.. it drives me nuts too!

It has come in spurts it wasnt really a pain during the early months but its since shes been having her 2am to 5am constant comfort clustering feeds, maybe a month to 6 weeks this is when its started pretty much so its been a while :( Will try some different positions though, thank you for your help. I go topless in bed and even got the boobs a bit of sun the other day which seemed to help but as soon as she fed again i was itching once she was on

Would where the teeth are make a difference? Shes got three bottom teeth and she cut her top tooth the other week. although i imagine it would have happened when she cut the other? Thats how it feels though that super tender sort of feeling as you described.

MIght have a chat to the aba or a LC and see what they say i just wanna rip my boobies off at the moment
