hi all,
being a fairly new mum to Perth I wondered if you knew where I could have a try of a baby sling.
My slight concern is my 'baby' is 16 months and heavy. nearly 13kg. I've been told you can get slings though for toddlers and as i'm going to the uk on my own with him I thought it may come in useful for transit etc.. but i'd like to try one out before I buy.
Or can you hire them?
Be really interested to know your thoughts on whether he is too heavy and any advice on my qu's.
thanks girls,
Lisa

I am not in perth but go the Ergo :) was carrying around my 3year old in it she was nearly 3 at the time, she weighed around 17kgs. The whole front back hip carry does it for me, plus they dont cause any unwanted pressure on your back either

Welcome to Perth :D
I have an Ergo and its fantastic, made of organic cotton and can carry up to 24Kg. Its a back pack. They're a bit pricey $140 but worth it if you're going to use it. I got mine from www.gear4baby.com.au (http://www.gear4baby.com.au)
Why don't you go to the baby and kids markets and see if you can pick up a 2nd hand one? The next one is on the 27th July at Craigie Leisure Centre or go to www.babykidsmarket.com.au (http://www.babykidsmarket.com.au) for the info.
Have a great trip!
We have an ergo too. You can get them from Babyland in Osborne Park and also have a look on Ebay. (Let me know if you want a squizz at ours).

wow what quick responses!
I will def try and check out the ergo - can you only buy it online? do any shops sell it where I can try one?
trying not to dread the trip too much - it will certainly be interesting having a toddler on my lap for 21 hrs...

If you can go to the baby expo in Claremont - you can get a free pass from teh bubh hub site. They have a heap of different slings there that you can try out and they often have specials.
ergo ergo ergo
my 16 month old loves it. we've had it since he was about 5 months and plan to buy the 'infant insert' for the newbie :)
and welcome to perth!

well I went to babyland and tried the ergo - little one was quite wriggly actually and i'm not sure how he'll handle it (or do they just get used to it?)
when he was in the front I was amazed at how comfy it was and how much better it is than carrying him around.
however, not one of the ladies in the shop knew how to fit it sideways..
not only that but it was $165 so will def check out the craigie leisure centre and possibly the quokka.
thanks for all your replies!

i actually just bought a nurture sling. ds is almost 12kg's and happily sits on my hip in the sling. i find it really comfortable and for me the fact it has no buckles or straps is useful as i'm completely uselss when it comes to those things.
i tried on a more expensive sling at baby expo and walked around the shop with ds for a bit, then decided on the nurture sling cuz its very affordable bout $35 inc postage.

hi there, i just been to the uk on hol with my little un, if i was you i would just buy a small conpact stroller, you can get them for about 20 dollars, you have to think if its really worth it spending all that money, i took my pram to uk and that was fine, in perth airport they have prams you can take up to the gate, and uk you can use your own pram up until the gate when boarding.
BUT i suppose everyone likes different things, hope that helps
