So Ds has been a wonderful eater until a couple of weeks ago.
But it's just with dinner.
He's at daycare 5 days a week, and eats everything I give him for the day. Plus he's always been a huge eater.
Typical daily menu for him is,
Breaky - Milk & fruit
Morning Tea - Yohgart & a banana
Lunch - Sandwich and 2 biccys
Afternoon Tea -Corn thins and Fruit Jelly
It does vary alot, but that's sort of it. He has milk during the day as well as water.
But, come dinner time...no matter what I give him he won't eat it. I've tried baked beans, spaghetti, chunky soups, all sorts of pastas, veggies etc... but he just won't go there.... doesn't help that he'll spit out anything with meat...
...It's starting to drive me nuts. He'll eat a mouthful or to and then just play with the rest. He's been feeding himself for the past few months, so i cant feed it to him either.
Anyone got some fool proof recipes they could share, that win their kids over every time?

I give Cobes the good stuff for lunch at daycare and then he can either pick foods at dinner time or eat a sandwich and I'm not too concerned.
Something that is a complete favourite is pin-wheels... puff pastry, tomato paste (or I use a home made vege puree), ham and cheese.... roll it up, cut into small sized portions, bake until brown. Yum yum!

Your ds sounds just like mine!!! He eats fine during the day but come to dinner, he just spits out everything. Food that he used to love, just gets spat out. I usually end up giving him chips (the oven ones) and a couple of fish fingers or those chicken chips. I know it's not good but he won't have anything else. He will usually have dessert with no worries (of course) icecream with bananna or custard.
I get concerned also because he is not having many veggies. I also need help!!

i would do same as seekrit, give him a good healthy sort of balanced meal at lunch then if he doesnt eat at dinner or if he just has a sandwich or picks you know his had all the good stuff earlier :)
maybe he eats at daycare as all the other kids are eating together?

Hi,
DS2 was - and still can be a bit like this! He loves homemade sausage rolls - and we have fun making them together. I actually put a lot more vege (usually carrot and zucchini) in than the recipe says. The other thing that worked for us was condiments! DS2 loves it if he gets to squeeze some mustard/tiny bit of tom sauce on his vege or if I do a cheese sauce. We also put heaps of vege in a pasta bake and he eats that all down. But maybe if he's eating all that at childcare he's just not hungry! I know I now give my DS2 very little afternoon tea so he is more motivated to eat dinner - he just has a little serve of fruit now and that has really helped.
Cheers,
Bec

My son is like this aswell.
I was starting to think he was going to be a vegetarian as soon as he tastes meat he spits it all out and then wont eat anything else.
I have tried so many things to hide meat but nothing seems to work.
He will eat Spag Bog and lasanga but thats it. He wont even touch Chicken.
So anyone with any receipes please let me know.
Toddlers often don't eat dinner, so remember it's nothing you are doing. Also he is eating during the day, so rest asured that he is not starving. These are my ideas on getting children to eat, hope something works for you
Feed him when he is actually hungry. Maybe give less afternoon tea? Or put dinner time back a bit? Tomato sauce can work wonders and is actually quite good for you as its very high in lycopene (which helps prevent cancer). Even if you cant stand tomato sauce on say, mashed potato, it might just encourage him to eat him.
A little sprinkle of cheese over foods can help too and of course kids need their calcium. Most kids will eat anything covered in cheese! Maybe get a kids cookbook as they are full of kid friendly ideas. Kids love being involved in the cooking and are more likely to eat it if they helped to make it. Even though he is young, it's a good habbit to get him in, and he can do things like mixing up sausauge roll filling.
Eat with him and if possible, the same food as him, to model good eating. I find giving toddlers a small amount works really well, and give them another small amount if they want it. PRAISE him for eating. This can work really well with some kids.
