I wash daily - so I dry pail, then cold rinse my nappies in the evening, then in the morning I do a cold/warm wash with 1/4 the amount of washing powder (Cold Power) then clothes horse to dry. I have a Fisher and Paykel washing machine and havnt had any smell problems yet.
The only time I might give my nappies an extra rinse before dry pailing, is if dd2 has done a Mr Whippy and I have forgot to put a liner in, then I have to rinse the nappy out :barf:

if your using the dryer to dry all the time, the nappies will hold the wee smell more than if you were to line dry. Try strip washing and then air drying either outside or on the clothes horse. Otherwise you can get a product from nurture nappies to spray on your nappies and inserts before dry pailing to help get rid of the smell, its a plant based product and i use it every 3rd wash or so, its pretty good.

Spray or soak nappies in vinegar solution before washing.
I always had nappy buckets set up with nappi san in the water, and everytime Id change a nappy, I would rinse it out in water, and throw it in the nappy bucket to soak.
I use to wash nappies once a day, and wringe them out, throw them in the mashine, with fabric softener, and more nappy san, with wshing powder,
and normally hang them on the line, but every so offen put them in the dryer, as it use to soften them up and make them flufy, but never wee smaell that I noticed.

Whatever you do, just be aware that with Modern Cloth nappies (not so much with the old-style terry flats) that vinegar will eventually lead to the elastic and pul corroding, specially if you soak the nappies in it. And Napisan or other nappy/laundry soakers should never be used with MCN.
Other then that, sorry, I don't have anything to add!! Very occasionally I have a few smelly nappies, but I credit that more the lack of sunshine at the moment, and having to dry them inside during most of winter. At least they get a little bit of UV exposure next to the window (which kills the germs). I don't have a dryer.

the sun is what kills the bacteria that can breed all nasties.. and smells ;)
if im only washing fitteds i put a little tea tree oil or lavender oil in the final rinse and sun them .. then put them in the drier once a week (only for about 1/2 hour on warm ) or so just to soften them up ..
with the aio / ai2.. i dont use much in way of the smell.. ie no vinegar or eo as it can ruin the pul and elastic
also you have a mix of bamboo and hemp nappies from memory . hemp naturally smells compared to the bamboo :)

:o Sorry forgot you couldn't use vinegar with PUL etc.
Tae Tree or Eucalyptus have antibacterial qualities so maybe make up a solution of 500ml water to 10 drops of essential oil in a spray bottle and give nappy a squirt before dry pailing ?? or you could use the essential oil straight in the bucket if you soak nappies.

Oooops. I have been using a tsp mixed with eucalyptus oil for smell, in a full load, on my MCN for ages *blush*. Bummer. It works just so well!
